Dunno if anyone's noticed yet but Steve has blessed the multigame page on arcadeshop.com with a promise of an update SOON! ...basically horizontal and vertical versions of the same games (nintendo playchoice?). ...setting things up for another pseudo-lame update after about one full year.

Not that anyone will be all that surprised by now. :-/

Funny... it says 8 games but there are 9 ?????? (NEW) spots...

They are VS games... not Playchoice games. I wonder how they will play vertically and I hope one of them is Balloon Fight.

Hell... I can't think of 5 decent VS games let alone 8.

Also... since the board is maxed out in capacity already, 8 new games won't fit unless you drop 8 games.

I'll hold my opinion until I see which games... how they play and WHETHER THEY SAVE HIGH SCORES! (this is a HUGE HUGE thing)

I bet:

Super Mario Bros
Excitebike
Balloon Fight
Golf
Tennis
Gradius

What other VS games are there?

Hogan's Alley
Pinball
Super Xevious
Platoon
Super Sky Kid
Castlevania
Mach Rider
Slalom
Wrecking Crew
Dr. Mario
Ice Climber
Mighty Bomb Jack
Gumshoe
Top Gun

That's all the one's I can think of right off.

the sad thing is that the board now needs a memory update... I hate having to pick and choose from the list of games only to not be able to put all the games I want on it.

Matt

BTW: It instills the sense of "QUALITY" when you come across quotes like this on a "professional" business website...

We will have an update with about eight Nintendo VS games for the horizontal build, then an udpate with
the same games for the vertical build. Soon after three more games -- Watch this page for more details!

I honestly don't get the appeal of including what is essentially NES games on an arcade-multiboard. Of course the VS systems were legit arcade systems, but I personally consider that almost as bad as maming a cab.

I do believe you're confusing the PLAYCHOICE with the VS system. The PLAYCHOICE games are NES replica's... the VS games are different (well most of them are from my experience). Better graphics... more "stuff" going on... and in most cases more difficult.

Balloon Fight for example is a completely different game than the NES version.

Now that said... I'd certainly rather see "dedicated" original vertical games on the vertical side of the board rather than hacked horizontal games made to play on a vertical monitor.

Bagman problems on AS multiboard?

Sort of on=topic (I figure AS multiboard folks will see it here!): Has anyone else tried playing Bagman on the AS multiboard? The response is horrible (unplayable) on my jamma cocktail. Corner timing is way off, and Bagman simply gets stuck in some places frequently--like, not being able to descend a ladder in a corner, etc. Sometimes Bagman gets stuck right from the start in the bottom left corner on the cart tracks--he will turn left and right, but can't move right out of the corner at all.

I'm using a general 4-way microswitch joystick and the signals are working in all 4 directions, but the game just doesn't respond with any consistency or control. Would switching to leaf switch joysticks help? (I like the feel of them better anyway.)

Programmable boards!!! Awesome

Wow... I didn't know there were programmable boards commercially manufactured. Think I might consider switching out some dedicated cabinets and getting these. Space is not at a premium.

update released!

Well the first update has been posted. Four new games for horizontally mounted monitors only for now. Star Luster, Stroke and Match Golf, Vs. Pinball , and Vs. Soccer. Apparently Star Luster was only released in Japan. I had golf on the NES and thought it was okay, but never played the Vs. version in the arcade. Vs. Pinball and Vs. Soccer didn't impress me on the NES back in the day, maybe they are better on the arcade versions? It's not Super Mario Brothers, but I'm glad they are still releasing updates.

Any thoughts?

Hmmm, not too excited about those games. Looks like more are coming in the next few weeks. I may wait a bit and see so I don't have to pull the board twice.

Bad thing about updates is that you lose all your high score saves.

I wonder if anyone is excited about this update or if anyone actually requested these games.

With the jamma harness you can power and reprogram the board without removing. But I guess if you have a desktop computer you're still out of luck. I keep the serial to usb cable plugged in and coiled up just inside the coin door- it makes the reprogramming pretty easy. I have noticed that the DK and some other random scores survive the reprogramming sometimes.

It also doesn't sound like they fixed any of the bugs from the last release. Sound was too loud on the last group they added and no high score saves. I really want to save my Berzerk scores.

Damn. I just realized that the computer that had all of my arcade shop board ROMs on it crashed earlier this year, and the hard drive had to be wiped. Unless the update offers something that I REALLY want, I really don't feel like having to "re-find" all of those ROMs again. It has to be CERTAIN sets, not just any set you might find on a MAME website...
