Yes, I know it's "holey". The Tempest cp I inherited the other day had 5 extra button holes punched in it that needed sealing back up. I can't take credit for this repair method because I saw it here on KLOV years ago, but I can attest to its effectiveness. I punched the knockouts out of a metal electrical box, clamped the cp onto a flat surface, laid the slugs in the holes, and mixed and spread J.B. Quikweld over their backs.

Four hours later, the shit was hard as steel, and I was able to sand them smooth and paint over them before I applied the cpo. You may notice that one of the slugs was not sitting perfectly flush, and I didn't notice that until I covered it. But considering the panel was headed for the dumpster, I think it'll work out swell.

Awesome save! Looks great.

Thanks for saving one more piece of history from the landfill. I'm sure you'll cherish that CP, as you really come to appreciate a part when you put that much work in it. It's a great feeling.

You think thats bad, check this one out...lol

Dang. I *think* I would have pitched that one. But it IS for a Reactor, so...

Might as well throw my hat into the ring :D

The ONLY reactor panel i could find. amazing how many times it was drilled for a new game. barely any structural support left. amazing hack job.

Ive heard of people using bondo to fill holes in metal panels. Does that actually work?

I've had success with the bondo. I will grab a package of the drywall repair screen. Comes in a 5 X 5 square with a sticky back. Cut my patch squares and attach. Then fill in with bondo and sand smooth. Now from the underneath side yes not so pretty but the top after painting is actually undetectable has does hold up.

BUT:

I think the electrical knockouts and JB weld method is far superior. I'm sold, you've made a believer out of me Neo :)

Bondo works fine on metal control panels, it's used for body work on cars all the time...

The problem with using Bondo on a control panel though is once you do that, you cannot Powder Coat it, you have to spray it.

The risk with welding control panels is you can warp them from the heat.

Keeping the heat down when welding is the key. (stitch welding). short welds. as seen in my 2nd pic. then grind then weld in the gaps again. just my 2 cents
