Holosseum Questions

This was a conversion kit for time traveler the laser disc game, basiclly it elimanated the laser disc player for ops that had problems with the time travelers laser disc player. The game uses a standard switcher that probably went bad and also uses a sony 19" tv for the picture, there isn't much else to the game other than the game board which is probably fine, sometimes the led scoreboard has issues but they can be rebuilt and are not needed for game play. Fair warning I've heard the game sucks, I've never played it. The cab is huge also, I own the original laser disc version time traveler and love it, mine will be at CAX this year if you are coming, this one is also mising the holographic marquee that sits above the game. To me maybe its worth 75.00-100.00 max, hope this helps.

The game sucks..... but if you want it... I mayt have some spare parts in the basement.

The game has a 19" TV that reflects the picture into a curved piece of plastic (mirror). The picture coming from the TV is upside down and inverted.

If I remember correctly, it is a switching power supply and may be JAMMA (can't remember). The game is no more complicated then a standard JAMMA cab. Just has a TV and mirror.

Oh... and the 3D does not work well for normal games. Games with a black background look poor but better then other games... but the text/score is inverted with the controls. I remember trying Galaga 3.

I'll second that, this game sucks. I remember playing this when it first came out thinking this is one of the crappiest fighters out there. But that being said, I think I would pick it up for $100. Be warned this game is a beast and like acejedi you missing the top marquee light. I don't know how hard is it but the first thing I would do is convert it back to Time Traveler!

I've always thought it would be neat to have a Time Traveler. I played this fighting game conversion at Camden Park back in the early 90's. Even as a wee lad, I thought this was the absolute worst fighting game I had ever played.

It's still a cool cabinet though, and I would totally get it...if Time traveler was supported in Daphne. I have access to a laser disc player, but I doubt I could ever get a Time Traveler disc/board affordably.

It's being advertised as non-working, and I remember playing these things as a kid and thinking the 3d effect was pretty cool.

My question is, is it worth taking a chance on to fix and use, or are they too hard to get parts for if it comes down to that?

The game sucks hard. It was a gimmick that was worth a couple quarters at best. Avoid.

Thanks for the info guys. It's probably the Time traveler I'm thinking of then, and not this one. I'll save my money and wait to see what comes out in the future, rather than get this incomplete setup.

Hopefully Mame will emulate this one someday...

MAME does emulate Hollosseum, so anyone that hasn't played it can see how bad it is. Emulation wouldn't do Time Traveler justice, as without the holographs, it wouldn't be anything special, right?

I remember a few years back being warned about the mirror (or reflective plastic, whatever). If that is missing/broken, it's going to be very difficult to replace.

I think Edmunds Scientific carried the mirror at one time, not sure if they do now. In Time Traveler there is a cool easter egg where you can see the programmer and his son dancing by using a button and joystick combo during attract mode.

The marquee is going to be really tough to locate though, I've seen only two on eBay over the years and they were always pricey as in $200+ each. It would be worth bugging the seller to really look around and make sure the sign isn't sitting in the corner behind a bunch of other crap.
