Hollywood Heat Special (Solved!)

I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I've had this game for the last little while and I can't for the life of me figure out how to activate the top roll under special. I can get the lower roll under special lit by spelling out P-I-N-B-A-L-L but I have no idea about the top one. Worst part is I have the manual for the thing! All it says is awards special when lit.... no hints as to how to get it. I've tried a bunch of different combinations but I'm running out of ideas so hopefully someone that has played it before can point me in the right direction.

Nope. Doesn't light up with pinball. I know my light works and the switch works because the switch scores properly and the light works in attract but can't get it to light up for the special shot during gameplay.

Well i guess i don't feel too bad if nobody else knows either. I'd still like to get to the bottom of it though

Brad, are you sure the light just doesn't coincide w/ the other special light in that little alleyway? I'm not sure why they would need two special lights??

I just fired up in Pinmame and both lights were triggered on and off when I got the 'special' in that alleyway. Like I said earlier, not sure why would need two specials on the playfield. I own several System 80B pins and that's the first pin I know to have two 'specials' on the playfield....

Well i guess that's what I'm trying to figure out. I can't tell if there is a problem with my game or what? Like i said the light definitely works in it as well as the regular scoring. So if the light and switch both work what could possibly cause it to not trigger the special (I've tried manually setting off the switch even though it doesn't light once pinball is lit and it just scores regular and doesn't award special)?

Do you have the pin set to 'novelty' mode on the dips from the MPU?

I had it turned off, just tried it on but made no difference. What does the novelty mode do anyways?

Weird... I know on Pinmame.. those two lights coincide. Let me ask my buddy Jim P. He's very knowledgeable on all things Gottlieb; he will have your answer!

Brad, I can confirm that the right special is triggered by the upper right switch.

What does it show on switch test? Maybe the switch needs a cleaning (business card), switch is gaped too far apart or you have a broken wire to that specific switch...

Hope this helps!

Damn! That means that I have to dig deeper into this... The switch works, this is what scares me. If the switch works properly then something else (guessing maybe something on the cpu) isn't working properly. Thanks for letting me know though.

I'm open to suggestions on this one ?

Eureka! Finally figured it out when I was playing tonight. I saw the bottom special light up, then it alternated to the top one and then I lost my ball ;( But even seeing it work gave me hope so I started digging again and realized that it alternates each time one of the lower bumpers is hit.

The manual for this game is awful it really doesn't explain anything...
