I have a Hollywood 3 in 1 photo booth. The original printer has went bad. I found a printer that will work on windows 98 which this unit has. The problem i have is the picture will only print real small on the 4 x 6. Maybe a 1 x 2. I have tried changing settings for the printer but none of that makes a difference. I do not know if maybe the software just sends it directly to the printer and it can not change its size or what. Has anyone had any experience like this? Maybe have a work around for me to be able to get it to print bigger pictures. The printer is a cannon I860. Thanks

If it is like the "Foto Fun" booths, the booth manufacturer would custom flash the printer so the PC that runs it will only work with their custom flashed printers. They'll charge $500 for a $100 printer.
I have an older LAI Star Blitz now that uses a $500 (retail) Mitsubishi printer that uses an ink roll (real thin cellophane) and paper roll that I can get for $80 shipped (600 shot, 16 cents a shot). Apple photo booths use the same model number printer, but you have to use their ink/paper at $300 a roll (600 shot, 50 cents a shot) because they encode something into their paper or ink that the printer "sees" and reports back to the computer that you are using the "proper" ink/paper even though it is the same damn thing.

Was that the machine made by Smart Ind. ?

I went through this a few years ago and had the same
problem. They wanted $2600 for a new printer setup.

I ended up putting in a $100 photo printer and wrote
my own software for it (used a Mame I/O board for
the inputs and a Velleman relay board for the outputs).

I couldn't get any other printer to work on the original
machine :(

Thanks for the replies. Pcjohn it is from smart industries. Is there anyway you could help me do this. I have no idea how to go about doing the programing and how to incorporate the I/O board plus the Velleman relay board. It is a cannon i860 printer i got for it.

Anyone know of any way i could manipulate the size of the photo coming out of the software to print as 4 x 6? It is coming out and printing 1 1/2 x 2

I don't know about the Canon driver, but do you have any resizing options under printing preferences? It may not work, depending how the software interfaces to the printer... but maybe if you set the printing defaults option to 250% or so scaling, maybe it would expand it.

Can you use a virtual printer, and print to a PDF (something like the CutePDF writer)? Once you had a PDF, it seems like it'd be easy to manipulate to enlarge, etc. You'd just need some process running in the background waiting for a new PDF, then have that process manipulate it and send it to the real printer.

Or, if you find the intermediate file that the software is generating to print, you could have a process wait for it, then manipulate/print it directly. You might need a fake printer driver that simply doesn't print, so the original software thinks the printer is working.

I don't know any specifics of the system, but just couple a thoughts.

The printer has alot of different options but none of them will change the outcome of the printed picture. It is like the picture is sent directly to the printer from the software and it allows no changes. I will look into your suggestions. It just seems like there should be a way to do it. I just don't have much experience with computers. Thanks
