Centipede auction

Looks like a little too much work to be worth $250, maybe not even $200.. the water damage looks pretty 'puffy,' but fixable.. the rest of the cab looks nice, though.

Should I place a bid for $200 or try letting it pass and making a lower follow-up offer like $150-175? I'm torn.

I would jump on that for sure! If nothing else, the hard parts sre all there and you could wait till you found a donor cabinet to put the guts n. I wish texas was next to me instead of Illinois, I wouldn't hesitate.

Did you notice the line on the screen that says, "Bonus chaque 150000?" Maybe you can't see the characters fighting because the game is French- chaque is french for each.

I was wondering about that.. does the US version say that?

Oh, well. It's too good of a deal to pass on. Even if I have to rebuild the cabinet, you're right, I just can't get all the other parts that cheap.. not even at auction. If worse comes to worst I'll get the board working 100% and part it out (God I hope not, though, a Multipede in a Centipede would rock

).

This puppy will probably have to have the electronics stripped and go into the garage for awhile, though. Plus this sets me back from completing my other projects even further LOL

If someone else wants it for more than about $225, though.. fair warning: have at it :p

Woot! No other bidders.. bet they were scared ;D

Guess this means I'll be working tirelessly all week to make room and get other stuff done now, though.. my mother is going to kill me.. better finish some stuff up and move it to my grandparents' house :p

Language is dip switch selectable on Centipede. I believe it has English, French, Spanish and German. I have accidentally set it to the wrong language when adjusting dip switch settings before.

That Centipede could be in worse shape. I saw one in a leaky warehouse that was soaked through and through. It stayed their but its parts didn't.

I'll have to see when I pick it up, I guess. The photos made it seem like it was just the right side by the CP area, so I can probably heat and peel back the art, sand the hell out of it, then apply some wood hardener and a body filler kit. I'm going to try to do this one without replacing any parts, if I can stand to.

The hard part is going to be keeping my hands off of it until I finish some other stuff.. aside from a good cleaning before I cling wrap it and stick it in the garage..

Picked up yesterday. Unfortunately -- whenever I do get around to this project -- I think the cabinet itself has had it. It's complete and the parts are all in excellent condition, which makes the purchase worthwhile, but the cabinet is swollen to 1 inch or more in a lot of places (the swelling in the eBay pics goes down and back on the same side, plus there was swelling all around on the bottom you couldn't see.. had a hell of a time getting the monitor glass in and out due to it).

No big deal. I'd probably rather build a nice, new repro cabinet than restore this one anyways. Even if I could save this one, it'd take a lot more time and have much less satisfying results.

For the time being, it's just cool to see that Centipede on the sideart when I look up from working

Too bad that this auction has already ended. That would be the perfect donor cabinet to transplant the parts into. With some work, it could be a great centipede for only $400 instead of the $600 to $800 that they usually run. Oh well. Keep your eye out, you may find another nice converted one with good side art or a nice empty or non-working complete unit.

Woah.. with shipping? No thanks.. I'm thinking a little cheaper as well as much nicer. I have a full shop at my disposal and building a repro cabinet from scratch is not a huge ordeal. 2-3 4x8s, a few other pieces for bracing, new t-molding, a little paint.. probably wouldn't cost more than $100-150, maybe less if I low-ball it. I plan to save the original sideart, too, if it'll come off somehow.. it's too nice to bother buying a new set and that would skyrocket the price of the project.

Then I end up with an A Centipede 'kit' in an A+ cabinet.

I've always thought it kind of sucked that they built these cabinets out of particle board anyways.. and I'm sure anyone who knows me well would agree that the longer I spend on one project the better ':p

One other thing.. didn't the original Centipede PCBs have a silver lining (whatever it is) on the PCB? I don't recall mine having this.. may be a bootleg.. hmm.. :/

That or sanding, wood hardener, wood filler, and some kind of poly or sealing agent.. but that -- while cheaper -- takes longer and doesn't hold up as well. Also depends on the amount of damage.

This baby is not likely getting fixed via that method.. almost half of one side is bloated and unstable back to the melamine, and the bottom has bloating all around. I'd probably spend more on bondo than it would take to build a new cab :/
