I would like to hear stories of how you acquired your Red Tents, and any history behind them if known. Would be nice to know how these things were out in the wild.

I posted about mine already, but I'll tell it again.

A buddy saw a bar owner had it in the back of his bar. Bartender said it was sitting there for 10 years or so. He did have it in the bar at one point.

We asked him if he would sell and he did indeed.

I asked him where he got it, and he said a guy owed him money, and gave him the tent in lieu of the money.

So mine was sitting in a bar for years, and it looks the part. Tar all over the thing. Has a broken button and a blurry monitor. The other monitor is not too bad, but has some burn...

What about your stories?

Nothing special with my Red Tent as far as how I got it. It was won off eBay and I was the only bidder. I have no idea of its history but one of the monitors had a yoke failure shortly after I bought it. Luckily another KLOVer found another monitor for me.

I was in Ohio on a family vacation and one came up on CL in Rhode Island. I contacted the guy and he agreed to hold it until I got back. He was moving to California. At the same time, he told a fellow collector friend, Dewman, that he would sell it to him. Well, Andy is a cool dude, and he backed off cause he knew I wanted it. So, when I got back from my vacation I went and got it and the rest is history for me and my love affair with the system. :)

Timberterror and FullThrottle helped me score mine back in February. Got it shipped from WA to CA. Best birthday present ever!

All I know is that it smelled like cigarette smoke and there was some type of beverage residue on one of the instruction card plates which tells me it could have been in a bar or some other type of venue. Also, there is heavy Golf and Top Gun screen burn and it came with both games. So those were the only games that were probably in it until I pulled the board out. I don't really care though. Just happy that it's in my game room. :)

When i was a teenager we hung out at a local arcade here in my home town and would play Excite Bike on a rent tent. I went back to that Arcade last year (23 years later) and in the same row with about 6 other tents there was ExciteBike MarioBros! I asked the Owner of the Arcade how much and he sold it too me off the floor for $300! I might have paid too much? but hey it's the same game from when i was a kid. I did a cap on both monitors and it works great but it's in need of paint, new buttons, and cpos. I would post a picture buy my game room is underconstruction.

oh yeah, i still suck at ExciteBike, but i love it, ha!

I'm not sure where mine was either but I also have serious cig smell when i open it and the glorious burn of SMB on one side and Top gun on the other. I am also really excited to have it!

ohhhhh and another one just popped up on CL in my area...I would love to have a second but it's probably gone already!

That's a cool story. So he still had a row of Red Tents?
I wonder how much they were new.

No real story behind mine. Still has that cig smoke smell every time I open it up and a little baseball burn on both sides. Picked it up for $25 with SMB and Excitebike on it. Right now Goonies is my game of choice since my SMB isn't working.

Whoa! How you score that?

Picked mine up from a guy on craigslist. He said he owned some bowling alleys and bought it to put on the floor but never did. He got out of the business and put it in his house for his kids but they outgrew it. It's very clean and doesn't smell, but it has 4 broken buttons. Has Castlevania & The Goonies in it, it's fun.

I bet his kids are gonna want one again someday for nostalgic reasons. Unless they were like 17 when he brought it home.

Decided one day after watching a sheit load of blkdogs videos that i wanted one, Feb-Early March 2010. Once came up locally by a fellow KLOV'r but i was maxed out in games so i decided since it's my sons birthday and he loves mario i would try to snag it. A little late but after a few deals fell through, it was my shot and i went to pick it up!

Came with Excitebike, SMB, Tennis and Baseball. Although only one monitor works at this time, it's very bright but has some Baseball burn in but i dont care about that, it's very nice looking.

Just bought Goonies Daughter card and Balloon fight roms. Can't wait to play those two!

Hmm don't know the history behind mine. I bought it from a fellow KLOVr. He had two others!

It definately needs paint and one monitor needs to be capped, but the CPOs are good, there is next to no monitor burn and the inside is clean as can be. I really don't even know if i want to repaint it. It works, doesn't look too too bad, and it kind of adds to the character. Besides, I have other projects that need to get done first.

I was actually going to start a different thread, kind of a roll call. Who has one, what games you have/are looking for etc. Except John, everytime i watch that Mighty Bomb jack video i get insanely jealous. I grew up playing that game on my NES and to have it on my tent would be a-frickin-mazing... ;) Should i still do that?

I have never seen a Mighty Bomb Jack for sale before or after I got mine on ebay. It has a totally unique PPU too. Great game!! There has to be another one out there!

I mean, logic says it was released in Japan... 25 years ago. Chances are slim.

But i do what we always tell people to do. Keep your eyes out on the internet and maybe eventually you will find it....

It would be cool to see a list or map of where all the red tents are located here on KLOV. The VAPs list is most likely inaccurate or not up to date.

This thread is awesome, we have two different Johnny 5 avatars.
