So the APB originally had two 25w incandescent bulbs in the marquee. I dont see the harm, but would it hurt if I replaced them with 14w CFL "energy saving" bulbs with a "65w comparable" brightness? Will I see any effect in the blinking once I repair the TRIAC board?

CFL's would not do well long term with the on-off nature of the application.
Search for "Bionic APB" and you will find my TRIAC rebuild thread.
I used TRIACs rated for higher current and they were also significantly cheaper!

I guess I should ask, why CFL's?
Are you after saving energy, lower heat?
LED's might be a sweet option! :D

Yeah, the CFLs would last a week, max. If I had one I would probably replace the triac board outright with a pair of fast switching SSRs and break out the LEDs.

I wanted to use CFLs because they run cooler and I have a really nice marquee that I want to keep un-burned. Thanks for the info!

There's always LEDs :) LEDs will do damn near anything if you power them correctly. You'd probably have to swap out the triac board for something based on SSRs though, as LEDs really, really need DC to look right.
