I recently purchased a bulk buy of electronic equipment, and included was a high voltage probe. I thought about using it, but I wanted to test it before I did to make sure it works. (I always check for continuity on my screwdriver w/alligator clip before I discharge monitors, just to be sure)

Shouldn't there be some kind of continuity or resistance between the tip and the alligator clip? I get no deflection or anything - it just shows as an open if I try check the probe. Is that normal or is my HVP probably dead?

Thanks.

Inside the probe is a bunch of resistors all wired in series in order to drop the high voltage down to a level for the measuring circuitry.

It is perfectly normal for the readings you got.
