Getting ready to install new play field and plastics. Trying to decide if I should put led bulbs in. Any opinions?

Also, should I have the playfield clear coated before installing? If so where can I get done locally? And how much?

Where do I get clear coated? I live in Jacksonville fl, how much does it run?

My take on High Speed led's ...

I installed led's on my "High Speed" in February. I did not like the looks of them on the playfield, but did underneath the playfield and the backbox. Bought the ones on sale from Pinballlife, at the time, $.25ea. A friend of mine who also has a "High Speed", also likes the look of the led's and is considering them.

I'd use Cointaker super brights under the inserts, I love the way that looks. GI can sometimes go either way, some games don't look good with the yellow of incandescents after installing LEDs under the playfield, Cointaker's 2 LED whites work out rather nicely in those cases. Whichever way you go, do not LED the flashers. I learned by experience that games that old weren't meant to handle LED flashers. Incanescents look great under the colored domes anyway.

I have a High Speed as well, and also did LED's in the inserts and backglass. used cointakers super brights in backglass and inserts. Flashers and g.I. are incadescents as the led's just dont look good for G.I. I also did up the 2 hideouts in green LED's which I think looks really cool. Where did you get the New playfield from? I used warm white super brights and cool white super brights for the backglass. Did you get your plastic set from Marco? I just got my plastic set last week and changed a couple domes from red to blue, so theres 2 red and 2 blue flasher domes. I would recommend led's in the traffic light too. I looks great when the flashers get going flashing blue and red, not just RED. Everything is not permanent and can change it back to original when ever I want.

Sound cool. I bought my playfield from Ss billiards. I'm trying to figure out best way to protect it. Clear coat or Mylar?

Clearcoating is by far the best you can do for the playfield! Although i read several times that if the machine is in home use only then there's no need for mylar or clearcoat, as it wont see the play it had in arcades and bars. Wear happens when regular maintenance is not done like cleaning and waxing and puting in new balls in, old dinged up balls is like sand paper to the pf. The fool who bought this game new never put on the mylar overlay that was suppose to be put on by the owner when you got it out of the box. mine has no mylar or clearcoat and have no new wear in 3 years that i have had the machine. i put like 5 coats of caranuba wax on it when i clean it though.

is this the place--http://www.ssbilliards.com/sale.html- if you spent $800 for the pf then you should get that clearcoated no question about it.

Did you get that from Greg? If so, he is a really great guy to do business with. I have done business with him in the past and hopefully will do more in the future. Without any doubt I would get it clearcoated.

Yes I bought from Greg. I've sent him money and are waiting for him to ship. He seems very busy. Hopefully all goes well. I'm struggling to find a place to clearcote. I have a buddy airbrushes for a living, he says he can do it no problem, says we don't need to use auto clear. What's all your opinions?

Isn't this game notorious for having one of the tougher mylars to remove? Seems like I am always reading about the mylar being a pain... taking up more paint than usual. I would clearcoat this one, no question. Nothing against the person who said it earlier, but I think the whole "the playfield won't get as much wear at home as it would in public" is a psuedo myth. I mean, it will be taken care of and cleaned by you more than the average op would... but it will still be used. Who is to say how many miles you will put on it? Go with the best protection you can afford. High Speed is fucking bad ass anyways... If you don't put significant miles on it, you have issues. ;)

The mylar was owners job to put on when they purchased the machine new. My high Speed had no mylar put on by owner and therefor i have a bit wear around inserts and by the ramp, no big deal to me as it plays 100% and is "badA$$" over alot of newer games that came after it. It does have mylar by the slings and arounfd the pop-bumper area. Rhm, you should use auto clearcoat by the way. Also dont just do this in a garage you need a dust free environment when sprayed and as it cures. Where did you get your plastic kit from? i got mine from Marco as they were the only place to have it. I just needed 6 pieces but it was hard to find those pieces individually. love the topper it came with, just makes it complete.

I would hope if you are paying the price that Greg wanted for that NOS playfield, that you would have someone who knows what they are doing clearcoat it. I did not get a chance to see the playfield when I was there last, but everything that I have bought from him has been exactly how he listed it.
