I need some help with this High Speed that I just picked up. I tried to search the forums for my answers and I really couldn't find what I was looking for. If you run your hand over the inserts on the speedometer part of the playfield most of them are raised which looks to have caused the Mylar to crackle up and whatnot. So my first question would be what are my first steps to help make this playable? Secondly will I mess anything up by playing a few games before I do these repairs? Third I read that if the inserts are popping up like this you want to hammer them down, is that correct and do you need to remove the Mylar before hand? Forth, how do I remove the Mylar without taking paint with it? Lastly once I remove the Mylar is this what I want to install, http://www.marcospecialties.com/product.asp?ic=03%2D7960%2D541%2D1
Any help would be greatly appreciated, BTW sorry for such noob questions but I really don't know much about pinball's.

A heat gun will work to soften the glue and you can set them flush. Just do not leave it on in one spot too long. Then adding a little elmers glue on the underside should help this out.

So does that mean that I am pulling off the Mylar or am I leaving it on and doing the heat gun and glue thing?

The other issue that I seem to be having is some sort of noise feedback from the speakers that corresponds to the lights from the playfield flashing. How much should I be having if any at all?

I would not sweat it, they all have some sort of hiss . As mentioned freeze spray works great . Just slow and have patience.

I removed the mylar off of a High Speed using the freeze spray method. No paint loss from the removal.

After the mylar is off, you will then have to remove the adhesive that was left behind. My method of choice is to soak a small rag(say 4" x 4") in goo gone and set it on the playfield. Let it sit for a few minutes and then remove it. Next I take a clean rag and drape it over my finger and rub the same area. This is very time consuming. I always get multiple blisters as your fingers will heat up from the constant rubbing. The adhesive "should" sort of ball up and come off. If it does not, let the rag soak a little longer on the playfield.

For the inserts, I would try heating them from the underside first. Then set a small block of wood over the insert and tap it back down with a hammer. You might have to re-glue some of the inserts(from the bottom side). Like mentioned above, if you do choose to heat from the top side, be very careful that you do not leave the heat gun on for too long. Will burn/bubble/ruin your playfield.

When all said it done, I would skip the new mylar. Just clean the playfield really good and put a couple coats of wax on and use new balls. You will need to continue to wax the playfield after so many plays. Keeps your playfield nice.

Good Luck!
