Just installed my Donkey Kong HS kit. A breeze to do, and works great! I think I'll look into the Missile Command one next.

Is there a non-battery option (kit) for Robotron?

Is there something that'll work for Omega Race?

Does Mark still sell his Warlords HS kit?

Omega Race should already remember the top score for both a 1-coin and 2-coin game.

You mean via the battery that was infamous for killing the board? Yeah - that's long gone. ;)

Or does it save it some other way?

Get the Braze kit from Arcadeshop for M.C., it saves the high scores and you get Super Missile Attack too, which I play much more than M.C., way more challenging. My Warlords CT saves the individual and team high score, but I don't know what was added to do that. I got it from Jow, you might PM him and ask.

Awesome. :D Yeah, I'm thinking of ordering the M.C. HS kit next week. I'll check with Jow...

Robotron: Desolder the 6514, put in a socket, trash the batteries, install a 2114 -> simtek NVRAM adapter

Omega Race: pull the 5101, replace the socket since the original is crappy, install a 2101 -> simtek NVRAM adapter

Warlords: Not until I have time to fix my warlords board and dig out the bare kits.

Some people have used cordless phone batteries... I used a 1F, 5.5v battery back-up capacitor on ours.

(or you can go Mark's way with the NVRAM...)

Installed - works perfectly!

lol nice thread :) finally caved in and splurged on a bunch of HS save kits: Battlezone, DK, DKjr, Mario bros, popeye, timepilot, timepilot84, gyruss, burgertime and bosconian. It adds up fast but they improve the games replay value drastically. May need to grab pengo and superpacman one day. The MC and Multipede kits are awesome. Hoping someone will make a crazy climber and scramble someday!

Play any Super Missile yet? Make sure you have it set on the easiest setting;)

I set it for 6 cities and 10K bonus cities, the same I have Missile Command set for.

It...kicked my ass!

Go to 8k for bonus city on Super Missile. That's TG settings...

For anyone who's never played "Super Missile Attack": there's a flying saucer that targets your cities with a instant beam of death - but it charges up before releasing the beam. And the sound it makes while it charges is freakin' awesome! Easily one of the best enemy sounds of the classic era...

Yep. Our buddy, the laser saucer. ZAP!

Just wait until one of the airplanes drops 2 or 3 smart bombs on you all at once... That's crazy.:D

Yup - that just happened to me. This thing is nuts.

The speed of everything is ridiculous too. But it's fun to go back and play regular Missile Command afterwards; much easier!

Call me old school but... if you got a score of 4th or lower, wallow in it for the day but that is all. You better bring a high score in the top 3 if you want multi-day recognition. Hence when someone says "fool, you better recognize!" Point to the top 3 scores.

I'm on board too. I have the DKII kit and the Asteroids kit. I know everyone says its easy to install, but I find it nerve-wracking. A lot of those chips aren't super easy to remove after sitting in there for 25+ years. That and the pins are slightly thicker in the HS kits, so sometimes it takes me a while to work the kit into the socket. I personally hate removing chips.

I hate that son of a bitch.

Thats the HS save kit from Spaeth.

I found a picture of the original Super Missile Attack kit online on JROK's page (I think). He also had a picture of the original documentation there, which had an address.

Plugged the address into Google Maps and ended up in the middle of the woods in what looked like a well-to-do area with big houses. Was this programmed by someone from GCC in their garage?

It was an unauthorized hack. They ended up getting sued by Atari and the settlement was that GCC designed 3 games for Atari. Those games were Food Fight, Kangaroo and one other that is slipping my mind I believe. Someone else I'm sure can fill in the blanks...

They did Quantum and Food Fight for Atari. Kangaroo was a Sun Electronics game.
