I am making a custom high score board for my Basementcade and eventually webstore.

What do you guys think? Chalkboard paint or Dry erase paint in the middle?

Its just raw steel at the moment.

I am kinda leaning towards a chalkboard since its old school but dry erase is so much easier.

I'd say Dry Erase... Why skip the opportunity to inhale some fumes?

Also, are these (or similar) going to be available? That's REALLY nice!

MMMMM Fumes.. I forgot about the fumes:)

Yea they will be avaliable.. or something like it.
Hopefully in another week or so.

Wow running neck and neck. Digital.. nice:)

Yes you are all now guinea pigs in my diabolical market research study:) Muhhhhaa.

Personally, I think the chalk board will look better with the framing present. The white base will really stand out and detract from the framing in my opinion.

I have an old Pepsi menu board that I use for high scores. It uses the push on plastic lettering and a fellow forum member picked it up for me when it popped up on cl while I was out of town.

Excel spreadsheet.

There's always a comedian in the bunch. :D

Going by the board at Barcade in Brooklyn, Chalk on a black board is easier to read as long as you use a damp sponge to erase. Dry erase leaves no mess. And digital just screams that you're serious about the scores.

Chalk: Clearer
Dry Erase: Cleaner
Digital: Cooler

Personally, I'd go for dry erase because I can't stand the sound of chalk even being used (I know, I'm weird). On the other hand, I don't know which paint works better - if one's going to not be up to the job, then the other would probably be preferred.

You know, since it's steel, you could paint it anything you like (I'd go for white), then make letters/numbers out of magnet paper and have an easily renewable set with whatever characters you need.

Slight derailment here... is there a marker safe to use directly on glass bezels? I ask because most of my games save high scores, but for the few that dont, I've always thought about a dry erase (or similar) marker where I can write the high score directly on the bezel. I was always afraid I might wreck it somehow though.
