Okay I am working on a broken mrs. pac trying to get voltages... The monitor is just black but makes this horrible really annoying high pitch noise.
What makes that noise? Gives me an instant headache.

looks fine doesn't mean much. if it's a nearly 30-year-old GO7 flyback there's a darn good chance it's going or gone bad.

but then again maybe it's not. it could also be a separation inside the flyback, the core coming lose from the sides.

Bob Roberts has a good page on taking care of it if that's the problem:

Argh, dontcha hate that? Like fingernails on a chalkboard.

I once picked up a TV set from the dump - a circa 1974 color Zenith. Had a decent picture, but a bad flyback. You could hear it a mile away.

Maybe the more technically inclined could tell us what about a bad flyback actually causes the noise itself, `cause I'm not sure...

A few possible causes. You could have high voltage arcing that's making noise. You could also have something vibrating. Inductors often move if you hit them with a big enough current change. If you're clever you can make them "sing" in a controlled fashion. I used to have a B&W tv that whined. I was told years after I got rid of it that the horizontal output transistor was iffy. The guy showed my one in a similar tv that had a big piece of the HOT case missing. I don't have a G07, so I don't know what's most likely.
