Well I have 3 arcade games of my own mrs.pac maxxiumum force and turkey hunter and i was wondering if anyone could like tell me the basics of arcade games (im a neandrathawl when it comes to these) hahaha so please post below. and no spamming please

You certainly do need help stating you are really 10 years old!

I think I hear your mom calling...

Start with the basics most arcades have a pcb aka circuit board and to power that board a power supply commonly refereed to as a switcher if it is the small switching power supplies that are popular. Then there is the wiring harness some are specific to the game some are universal also referred to as JAMMA. Then you have your monitor RGB 15khz on most games its normally consists of a chassis which is the circuit board and the tube. Then you have your coin doors and control panel which is game dependent on what it will have trackball joysticks and buttons.

So that's all the pretty basics of them what would you like to know more about?

Your never to young to learn. The dumbest question is the one not asked

I'm not too proud to admit that I, too, will be following this thread... :) I lurvs me some FAQ location type stuff.

10 years old? Just play them and have fun! You have a good list of wants in your signature, keep thinking along those lines and you will do just fine.

I was 10 in 82' and that's what got me here now.

how is it that you have 3 arcade machines and are only 10? and how is it that you have 3 arcade machines and know nothing about them? sorry about the grilling; its just that i got my 1st arcade machine when i was 16

I was 9 when I got my first machine... so I can feel where you're coming from.

My honest advice? Stick with mostly working games for now and enjoy playing them. I learned by getting one game at a time and fixing minor things that all added up to a fairly good knowledge of repair (everything but monitor, haha). But unless you plan on doing huge restores, I would advise you not to worry too much about it. Read schematics of the games you have to get an idea for how many parts are in each but don't stress it too much. When I was 10, I thought I was really great at electronics but I know I wouldn't have had the strength or dexterity to try to do large scale operations or even safe troubleshooting. Just enjoy being ahead of the other kids in OWNING arcade machines and learn the rest in due time. I'll be honest, while I spent a lot of time researching stuff to understand more complicated repair stuff, very rarely do I have to use it and I know I still don't have the skill it takes to do a huge, complex restore. Just get some functioning games, learn to do minor tweaks as you need too, and have a blast playing them. :)

Your Dad should be more concerned with you communicating with total strangers on the Internet than 50k volts. Seriously, go play outside, enjoy being a kid while you can instead of hanging around here with a bunch of 30-50 yr old dudes.

The odd thing is that your dad has a (working maybe) pacman, do not want you around when dealing with the monitor so maybe he actually can give you the necessary basics ;)
