Hey Guys, anyone want to see what a Craigslist scam looks like?

Hey all,
Perhaps I shouldn't post this as there is an off chance its both legit and a fellow member. But I have a real sneaking suspicion that this a yet another Craigslist congame. So first, here is listing (read, enjoy):

http://knoxville.craigslist.org/tag/1934025669.html

Keep in mind that I was planning to offer a somewhat lowball offer of 1500 if it was still available. Not just because I am cheap but also because I have never played Twilight Zone so I can't vouch that its a kick ass pinball.

And here is the reply I get,
Hi
Please apologize me for my delayed response. The pinball machine is in perfect working condition. This game works perfectly and has always been in a non-smoking home. I`m selling it because i need money for my house mortgage and i`m in a time crunch.
The price is $2,500 and the machine will be delivered from GA but so i can enlarge my perspectives, i listed it on numerous states. Delivery will take no more than 3-5 days.
My work involves a lot of travelling, so my ONLY option to manage the transaction, is trough Google Checkout Program, which means that you can be able to inspect the machine before i receive payment. You will have 5 days to inspect and verify the machine before the money reach my account. If by any reason the machine is not as described, or if you find any problems with it I will pay for the returning fees and Google Checkout will refund your money.
I'm sure it won't be the case because it's like new. I apologize if it seems like I'm pushing on this deal but I really want to be sure everything is clarified before any further steps.
If you're still interested please reply and i will explain you the exact steps of the transaction
Hope to hear from you soon,

P.S. for pics please visit: http://www.use.com/44dd43ff102bded873ff

Now I can't be sure this is a con. And if this is a fellow KLOV member, consider this a bump and assist of the sale of your machine. But considering that the reply quotes a price that is higher than the Craigslist listing just makes my spidey con sense tingle. But hey, your comments are welcomed and encouraged.

Yeah something smells funny here! This person knows this is an A list game and worth more then $2500 in that condition.

Routed, dirty ,and broken plastics, possibly not fully functioning, then yeah $2500.

Definitely looks like a scam. Anytime I have to pay in advance not through paypal on craigslist I figure it would be a scam. Plus I noticed when you click on the link for more pictures, they were uploaded anonymously. If you are on the up and up asking for that kind of cash, you put your info into a site like that. The paying shipping and offering free return shipping is the biggest kicker though for me. If you are already hurting for cash you can't offer that, there's no way.

Same ad popped up on the SoCal CLs. Just looked fishy, but of course, this confirms it's a fake/scam.

search around a little:

And here is an email he sent to me after i asked if the bike was still up for sale.

Hello Ridley,
First let me apologize for delay reply.Thank you for your interest in buying my bike:Ridley Noah Road Bike XL Di2 59cm 60cm 61cm TT Tri.
Please note that the bike is like NEW.
The bike will be shipped from Las Vegas, NV but so i can enlarge my perspectives, i listed it on numerous states
The total price will be: $1999 including shipping.
Because of my work my time is limited ( most of the time i must travel trough all USA ) my option is to end this deal trough eBay Buyer Protection, which means that you can be able to inspect the bike before i receive payment.
If you're agree with my terms please reply and i will e-mail the steps of the transaction.

Hope to hear from you soon

sound familiar?

Saw the same thing on the Omaha board a week or two ago and replied. Definite scam. The reply said it was in Washington and to pay via Ebay and they would ship. Claimed money would be held for 5 days to inspect. All lies. Also, the real machine is on Ebay and the ad there states there is a Craigs List scam using his pics. Reply also said they needed money for their mortgage and the ad had been posted to various states.

The same type scam occurs for automobiles. When shopping for one I found two definite scams. Ship the car from Florida. Pay via Ebay. 5 days to inspect. All lies as Ebay nor Google allow payment for holding for inspection. Ebay only allows payment on their auctions. Other big ticket items are the same.

And related to this...always pay via credit card. Even when paying through Paypal. Then if the item doesn't show, isn't as described, or doesn't work as advertised you can go through your credit card company for a refund and not have to deal with Paypal or the seller directly. By that I mean try to work it out with the seller but if they won't take care of it your credit card company will without you having to pursue the seller yourself.

Just google the email. Its listed on multiple sites in multiple places.

In my experience 90% of ones with and email in the text is a scam, also the large text and colors tip it off to me.

Oh I get it now, you have nothing else to offer this forum but your political bullshit so instead of keeping it in the correct forum you let it spill over in places where it is not welcome. What's the matter, are the guys over in P&R not taking your bait anymore?

That has to be one of the most poorly veiled plots to cause trouble i've ever seen in my short time on this board.

out out you demons of stupidity

if you look at the scambaiting website, there are some fantastic ways of dealing with "those" kinds of people. tying them up with emails, faxes and photos is hilarious and should be recommended.

maybe KLOV could add a section on the game scams we are all running into ? could be a fun addition !

i contributed to the furtherance of the thread. did the political police add anything ?

*pin drop*

the guy has political junk in his signature, but thats ok. typical you take his side, your bias is showing AGAIN.

took the opportunity to point out hypocrisy and will do so again

also
probably should be a rule when the political police show up and take shots, at least have something interesting to contribute.

but why get my hopes up

Hey guyz! I just saw an eBay auction for a Star Wars Chai...

Oh, wait. This isn't the right thread for this is it? This thread already has a specific topic that I am not addressing at all, huh...

I apologize to everyone for being a douche...

Oh, and... Herp derp.

I apologize to everyone for being a douche

its ok, i'm used to it
now, since im not furthering the thread, can we be douche brothers ?

only im not going to apologize for it. only "douches" do that
:)

was reading some of those scam baiting stories. some of them are just classic. getting the scammers to post a picture doing some gross thing is brilliant.
getting someone naked and posting a picture of their "junk" with some dumb slogan, should get an award

but in another sense isnt stealing someones money, for whatever bait thats on the hook, isnt that a form of Socialism ?
i've been robbed many times in my life and to me it seems everytime like some form of involuntary Socialism.
taking money from one person and giving it to someone else. taxes is a form of it too.

so i just wonder why its so bad to scam people i.e. take their money for a pinball machine
but its ok to raise taxes(i mean take more money from people) on everybody to pay for my dental problem, or welfare check, or for Frannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
in a way i just see no difference between the two
