Museum of the Game® & International Arcade Museum® Forums

Hey Everyone!

Glad to be here and a part of this forum! I have been using the main site for years when looking up games, but honestly spaced out that there was a forum, too!

So my arcade experience brings me back to some fuzzy nostalgia memories playing Outrun at the mall arcade when I was 4 or 5 in the mid to late 80s and continued on through the late 90s and early 2000s when the arcade scene seemed to disappear.

There was a period of time in the late 90s when eBay first came online that I was very seriously going to buy JAMMA boards from there and build a cabinet to swap the boards in and out, but I was in High School at the time and my parents weren't going to let me do that, so emulation and console ports were going to have to suffice. I later joined the military and the dream of owning arcade cabinets never waned, but the thought of moving machines every 3 years kept me from getting any...

Thanks to YouTube and the many great arcade channels out there like John's Arcade, Overtime Arcade, Tod's Video Games and More, Retro Ralph, and Arcade Hollywood, to name a few, they have allowed me to live vicariously through them, preparing for the day that I can truly step into the hobby.

Over the past 20 years, I have done woodworking, worked with laser cutters and CNCs, and dabbled with some electronics, first because I enjoy projects and working with my hands, but also because I knew that someday I would join the hobby. So that brings me to today. I still have a couple more years to serve in the military and am enjoying playing arcade games through emulation, FPGA implementation, and console releases, but I have a plan to implement once I leave the service and move into a more permanent residence.

My plan is to have a basement and finish it out to be a cross between a Pizza Hut, arcade, and bar. Brick, wood paneling, and black light carpets are a must, but what about the games?! I definitely have a list that I have accumulated over the years, and while some purchases will probably be impulse buys, these are the main games I will be after when the time comes.

I also want to get a few more of the classics from Nintendo, Namco, Midway, and Atari, but we will see how the future space looks. It would be nice to get some pinball games, too, but that hobby is definitely more pricey. I do have my eye on a few though.

Ultimately looking forward to collecting, restoring and playing these games that we love so much and hopefully keeping the arcade hobby going for the next generation. I'm glad this forum exists and will definitely be spending some time here to see all the awesome restorations and great games that get sold and traded.
