I'd never heard of Triple Hunt before this post. Looks like a very cool old-school shooter.

I flipped through a manual for it I found online...

The gun and screen cabs can be set between 5 and 15ft apart.

Both a standard and a white blacklight for lighting. Far out.

It's not optical-based, the rifle is a 2-axis joystick (like many later fixed-gun shooting games).

It is microprocessor-based... a 6800 at 800kHz according to the MAME driver. Interesting. I didn't know Atari used 6800s before they went 6502-happy.

8-track tape audio. Goovy.

Off-board mounted AA-battery holder. Atari had their poop in a group in the 70s. Too bad many future games would mount batterys on the PCBs...

Thanks for sharing!

I wanted to bump this instead of creating a new thread about the same topic.

I was thumbing through a issue of Play Meter magazine and came across a promo of this Atari game. I knew of the deluxe version (don't ever recall seeing one bitd though). Anyways, they also showed a more compact version - similar to the rifle EM games... has anybody seen one of these before?

I've never seen 3 dedicated cabs together although I have seen one cab with all three kits to swap out. I assume those are the larger 2 piece cabs. Yes I have seen the smaller style cab.

Wow.... I'm wondering if one of the kits is rarer compared to the others? I see the "bear" one mention a lot but never the witch or the other one(?)

Would love to have the smaller style cab - me want!!!!

The game is called "Triple Hunt" and it actually comes with all 3 of those kits. Games are DIP-selectable and you swap out 2 bezels, backdrop, instruction plate and the 8-track. All the art panels slide into a rack inside the bottom of the cab for storage.

The UR was sold as Triple Hunt and IIRC also was sold as just one of the games if that is all you wanted. It's still pretty large but at least you don't need 8 or 12 feet for the UR. Also, the standard 2-piece cab is far more common than the UR -- there are only a couple floating around. The batteries are not for high score save, but for saving gun calibration; the game uses pots for rifle position.

Raccoon Hunt is always what I left installed in mine.

Thanks for the insight... I always had a softspot for these lightgun games from the late '70s. Pat are saying that the smaller upright version the games were not changable? (That kinda sucks...)

I wish I actually had a chance to play one of these Atari ones but I mentioned earlier - never seen one. I even recall playing some EM rifle games bitd. I would be curious to know how many people do recall seeing one of these at there local establishment.

I would be interesting to know how many of these are still around today. Nothing against VAPS, but I take it w/ a grain of salt...

Some old pics of my "mini" UR Triple Hunt. Mine came with all three kits. There's probably a couple of other of these around.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Witch Hut/Raccoon Hunt/Hit the Bear the first game to use the angled glass against artwork idea that a few other games like Starship I and Asteroids Deluxe would also use?

Also very cool to see a Bazooka, I wondered if those actually existed or not

Sea Wolf has that distinction of being the first video game to use a reflective mirror. Apparently inspired by its EM cousins Sea Raider and Sea Devil.
