help with wiring buttons on a 60-in-1. can only start a 2-player game, not 1-player

I'm wiring up my first 60-in-1a board inside an old pacman cab. My problem is, I cannot get a 1-player game to start. I am able to add credits with the player 1 and player 2 coin-up wires, but cannot start a 1-player game. I can only play 2-player. I am new at the arcade hobby, but have electrical knowledge. What am I doing wrong?

I would make sure you have a ground wire going to the player 1 button.

If you do and it's still not working, swap the player 1 wiring to the player 2 button and see if it coins up that way. At least we are trouble shooting that way.

both buttons are grounded. Player 1 wiring to player 1 start button does nothing, player 2 wiring to player 1 start button starts a 2 player game.

Check continuity from the switch back to the edge connector. Check the switch test screen and double check pin out.

Are you using a new harness or an adapter? New buttons/panel or original? Do you have continuity between the ground on the Player 2 button and the ground on the Player 1 button?

I am using a new Jamma harness, with new buttons/switches. The control panel is used, but was bare when I started. Currently, the ground wire from the edge connector connects to both player 1 and player 2 buttons, then ends. One thing I'm not sure of, for example...the ground wire goes from edge connector, then to button 1, then button 2, etc, does the wire stop at the last button, or does it need to loop back to the edge connector after the last button (similar to wiring a trailer)?

sounds like the player 1 wire is not connected to the harness properly. I assume you tried connecting player 1 wiring to the player 2 button?

the switches are all good. Further testing in the morning, thanks all.

Yea I bet it is the p1 wiring from the harness not hooked up to the right pin on the edge connector.

I'd hook up the test button and put it in test mode by holding the button down while you turn it on or you could just touch the test wire to the ground for a minute and then hit it about 60 times until you get to the switch test and mess around with the wires like that until you figure it out :)

Problem solved. No continuity from edge connector to wire end. The wire was not soldered to the edge connector pin, and it was shrink-tubed. Resoldered it and she's working. Thanks for the help!!

That's what I get for buying a $10 harness with no English printed on the edge connector.
