Looking for some help for my 33" U3000 with no HV. At first, I was getting the ticking sound so I tried to check the output voltage from the power supply board but couldn't get a reading when it was connected because it would keep dropping becuase of the HV shutdown being active. So I did a cap kit and replaced the HOT, I also replaced most of the caps on the power supply board.

When I checked the output voltage from the power supply board, it was about 190v with no load. I know that's high, but again, it was with no load connected so not sure if it is too high.

Anyhow, when I tried to test the monitor, the HOT blew again. I noticed that there was a small melted spot on the flyback near one of the cables. So I ordered another HOT and a new flyback and installed them.

When I tried to test again, I did get a neck glow but no picture, as I started to make adjustments, the neck glow went out. I tested the HOT and, sure enough, it was blown again.

Paying $8 + shipping for a HOT is starting to get old. If anybody has any experience with this chassis, I would sure appreciate some guidance.

Thanks !

Take a look at all of the poly caps in the horizontal output section. They are known to short and will cause this sort of problem. Also, just because the flyback is new doesnt mean its good. The current crop of arcade parts are of questionable quality out of the box.

I'd also be looking at other large parts, resistors, diodes, transistors. Anything thats large enough to handle the power supplies output and not blow up right away.

Look at all of the pin header connections for cold solder and the connectors for fried pins.

FWIW, you can check the power supplies output with a 60 watt house hold light bulb. you can unplug the connector from the board, wire it into a bulb socket, screw in a bulb and power it up to measure it.
