help with rowe cd100d "not allowed" message

just got a used rowe cd100d model jukebox, and some of the disc slots show "not allowed" when i try to select a disc. the machine came empty and i filled it with my discs, but dont have a manual yet to fix this problem. do i need to reset the machine and reformat it for my discs or what? If so, how do i do it? Any help would be great. thanks.. Trev

Fastest way is to put the switch inside the juke to "service" position and enter 32 on the keypad. Number showing on the left is the CD number. Press "popular" and enter the number of tracks on CD number 00. Press "popular" again and enter the number of tracks on CD number 01. Repeat for all CDs and you're done. I assume you know that the label sides of the CDs face to the right and the CDs are inserted to the right of their designated numbers.

thank you very much... i will do that and let you know how it turns out.

The cd100 has a lockout feature as well that allows an OP to lockout certain discs or tracks from playing on a cd. This could also be your problem. You will also need to do a full system initialize after you get your discs all loaded in the juke. It will take a while for it to read them all and get them into memory.

True about the lockout feature, I forgot about that. However, it is not necessary to do a full system initialization, which does take a long time. The function 32 method only takes about five minutes, provided you have title strips installed so you can see how many tracks are on each CD. With all the bells and whistles these jukes have, I wonder why the darn thing can't initialize a CD by itself the first time a selection is made from it. Then if the CD is defective or missing it could lock it out. Another odd thing is that if the programed number of tracks is more than the actual CD contains, it will still play all the tracks. But if the programed number is less, it will not play any of the tracks.

Im not sure about the cd100d. But the cd100a needs to initialize any new disc you load, and unless you want to initialize each disc individually its easier to load all your discs and then do a full initialize and go have a few beers :)

Not to start a debate here, I'm just curious. I tried the function 32 method on a model A yesterday and it worked without a problem. This box has been upgraded to a proplayer system. However, I'm pretty sure I have used this method on jukes with the older players and controllers. Since the manual describes this function, I'm just wondering why it wouldn't work for yours, although nothing surprises me where electronics are concerned.

I can initialize discs one at a time. But he is going to be loading 100 new cds into his juke, and to do them individually would take forever

Maybe we are talking different functions here. Function 31 you enter the disc number and it pulls the disc and reads it after you go into play position. Function 32 you enter the number of tracks on the disc that is displayed, hit popular, and repeat for the next one. If you have the title strips installed so you can see the number of tracks on each disc, you can do all 100 discs in five minutes. Not a big deal, but a timesaver if you are in a hurry.
