Help with my first pin... Bally Hi-Lo Ace keeps blowing fuse
Hey guys.
I just picked up a Hi-Lo Ace and am trying to get it working again. I'm handy with an arcade game, but this is my first pin.
The machine is in super great shape. The backglass is absolutely perfect... extremely bright colors... not a scratch, the playfield has very little wear. There are some blemishes on the outside, and a broken corner on the back box... but nothing I can't handle.
The inside... that's another story.
When I got it, I was able to power it on. I wasn't getting any power to the back box, and there was a loud buzzing noise coming from the inside. Hitting the flipper button only made the chimes ring with no flipper movement. Hmmm. I powered it down and reset all of the steppers on the inside manually, and reseated the plug connectors just to make sure everything was plugged in. I powered it back on.
Still no power to the back box, but I was able to coin up and the ball went in the chute. I fired it and while I was waiting for the ball to come down the playfield, i hit the flippers a few times and they were flipping. In the 4th or 5th flipper tap... POP. Fuse blew.
I powered down, unplugged it, and lifted the playfield. It's a 10amp fuse in the middle of the fuse bank. Also... it looks like the fuse holder was busted.
I have modular fuse bank for testing, so I clipped the wires, bridged in the new fuse holder, and popped in a new 10amp fast blow. I got it set back up, turned it on... and blew the same fuse immediately.
Anyone familiar with older Bally EM's that can point me in the right direction? Where should I look first? Is it related to the back box not lighting up?
Thanks in advance for any help guys!
