Hey guys, DJ DNS is selling an ICB machine that he can bring to me but he says the lights that light to show you which hole to put the ball in don't work.

How hard is this part to fix? Is there something wrong with the PCB? I'm handy when it comes to taking stuff apart and cleaning, but not so much with electronics.

Any tips would be appreciated, looking to buy this from him tomorrow night so any answer, even if it's (don't buy to hard to fix) would help.

Thanks

Its one of a few possibilities. Bad bulb, bad socket, wiring or a transistor on the board. Any of them should be easy to fix. ICB is about as simple as it gets as far as repairs go.

Thanks, but it's a bulb or socket as he says all of them don't work (the ones that light up the holes). How hard is it to change the transistor?

He wants $450 non-working and $500 working, but if I want it working, I'll have to wait awhile, where as non-working I can have it tomorrow.

Heck, I'm not even sure if the price is that great, I've seen it all over the place.

Thanks for the input.

It could be as simple as all the bulbs are burnt out. I picked up a pinball the other day the other day that had 117 bulbs. 115 were burned out.

Sometimes it's just a fuse or connector.

Sometimes it's worse...

I have to concur. I have an ICB and it is one of the simplest of devices to fix.

Something about the obscurity of the machine coupled with a small but dedicated following seems to make the prices schizophrenic. I got mine for around $150. Broken, but easily repaired.

One of the questions I would have is regarding the glass -- how much paint has been removed. Mine is not flawless, but seems to be fairly mild on the damage side.

$450 seems high to me, but, I've probably got a lot less money to throw around than most. I love mine. Its a great, quick play, and does incredibly well when guests are over.

Thanks guys. I'll ask about the glass, but the bulbs were working and just stopped from what I gathered, so I doubt they all burned out at one shot.

If it was the "electronics" of this machine that are burned out, how easy of a fix is that?

If all of them are not working its probably a power supply issue.

Wouldn't a bad power supply cause some other problems? He claims that only the lights don't work.

If it is the power supply, how much would it cost to fix? He said for $50 it will be all fixed up for me, but may take a long time to get, I'm thinking about taking the risk and getting it now.

The other issue is that now everyone is saying $500 is too much, but I haven't seen these much cheaper elsewhere.

What is the name of the remake of this game? Would it be better just to buy a new copy of the game? I don't really care about the theme too much.

resolved.

whoever said that it was the power supply was correct. i bought this machine from djdns, just got around to changing out the power supply, and let there be lights!!!

The bridge rectifiers burn out on these power supplys, thats probably all thats wrong with your old one.

good to know. at least i'll probably replace them, and have a back up just in case. btw, i thought the price was just right. i'm glad that dude passed on it. :D

Had the same problem with mine, replaced the bridge rectifiers and it brought the lights back.

I also ended up having to replace the 2003A at U2 so that they would cycle properly during the attract mode.
