I just bought an original Donkey Kong. It has a Sanyo monitor. The left side of the monitor is cutting off the image. I don't see any pot on the monitor to adjust the screen position. Is anyone familiar with this monitor to point me to the pot that adjusts this? Thanks in advance,
- Rich

Just to clarify, does anyone have a schematic pointing out all of the pot's on this monitor. I am guessing there are some on the chassis. Nothing is labeled in my machine.

Post a picture of the problem. Being on the left side of the screen it sounds like fold over. If that's the case you need a cap kit.

I think you are right. I did find that there are image controls on the actual CPU board, which surprised me. Will go grab a pick and post it ASAP.

Thx!

Here is a screen shot. The color is great and the image is clear, it just cuts off on the left. As I posted above, I found, on the CPU, vertical picture controls. It helped a little, but it still cuts off. I have never done a cap kit, and I am a little nervous doing it with the high voltage. I am a pinball guy, so monitors are out of my comfort, but willing to try.

yup cap that bad boy.

do not run it like that it will burn that line into the screen.

i can cap it for you if you need it repaired.

Will probably take you up on that. Need to figure out how to get the board out. I am use to everything having molex connectors on pins. Assuming I can pull out the main board and send it to you. Any removal advice is appreciated.

Thx.

on a Sanyo you do not need to cut anything.

take your time it is not a fast process.

let me know if you need any help.

Couple of words of advice:

Heed Buffett. He's very helpful. Order your caps from him because he stocks the best stuff.

When you go to pull the monitor, take pictures as you go. I always tend to think that I'm going to remember where everything goes but then a week goes by before I put things back together and I forget.

There are a couple of things you can do to make removal of the moitor and chasis easier.

1) Pull the monitor out of the front of the cab. NEVER plug the monitor into a wall outlet, only plug it into the outlet inside the game. If you plug it into the wall you will kill it.

2) Make sure you discharge the monitor before you remove it.

3) You need to pull the chasis out of the monitor frame to work on it. Pull the right metal support arm and the metal plate behind the neck when you do this. It makes manuvering easier.

4) You won't need to desolder anything to remove the chasis, but you will need to find the places where the wires hook up and make sure you document how they are oriented so that you don't plug them in backwards when you reinstall. If I remember right there is a molex 2-piece black wire that runs from the left side of the monitor to the left side of the chasis. A molex 5(or so)-piece mulitcolored wire that runs from the neck to an area to the top left of the flyback. Then theres the suction-cup wire that runs from the monitor to the flyback. There is a grounding cable on the right side of the chasis. There are some other molex connectors that you can remove from the mini-boards (audio, pots, etc) or you can remove those boards along with the main chasis.

5) You'll need to remove the neckboard from the neck. This disconnects where the light green rubber piece is. Be careful and gently pull it back. There is also a black wire on the neckboard that will disconnect.

6) Be careful. These are, apparently, easy to crack and break.

yup way easier than out the back.

un hook all the connectors from the back first then out the front it comes.

C407 is your problem capacitor here. (10uf250v)

but since you need to take out the monitor anyway, its better to cap it completely while its out ;)

Darthnuno had exactly your problem :
