So I picked up a random HS5 with an original Big Buck Hunter board that has no HD. The previous owner said it was broken so I never got it with the cab when I got this machine.

I also have a dedicated Big Hunter II - Sportsmans Paradise in my arcade downstairs that works just fine.

I don't think it is this easy, but can I simply copy the hard drive and plug it up to my BBH? Or are the boards or security chips different? I assume I will need the Eagle 2.09 rom to allow for the bigger HD as well correct if this is even possible?

If not, does anyone sell replacement HD's or better yet replacement CF cards on here with the Eagle rom? The ones on eBay are pretty pricey....

I believe both boards are green. I can confirm tonight with pictures.

If they are both green, am I good to go with a simple copy?

You can not just take a BBH2 hard drive and put it on a BBH1 board. You need a new U53 Security chip and "maybe" a flash or new eeprom at U63 (Small 8 leg SMD chip) to be able to run the updated code for the newer game.
Also if you go over a 20Gb Drive... you need the Eagle 2.09 Boot Eeprom.
If the Original BBH board works just go to the local PC store and buy a old 10 or 20 Gb IDE hard drive and find the BBH CHD from mame and image it to the drive. Game = Fixed.

Finding the big buck hunter CHD file is proving slightly more difficult that I imagined. I have found the other versions, like Sportsmans Paradise and Shooters Challenge, but not the original...

bbh is a biach to find
I tried
I ended going sc which is easy to find
what I would do is first see what color your boards are
1=red
1=green
I believe is correct
if so look at the green board u53 and see what it is ?

Ok, I'll check first and then I can guess where I go from there.

So obviously you guys were correct.

The original buck hunter board is green and the Sportsman's Paradise is red.

I Have attached pics below. Any visual cues to anything missing other than the hd?

They are going to ask what the labels say on the chips next to the 4 red LEDs of the green board, and the chip that is blocked by the cable in the last picture of the red board. Those will tell you what chip versions are.

There is also a large rectangular chip near the board label with the bios version. 2.09 is the latest that can use larger hard drives.

Will take closer photos of those two areas tonight

Those are my two version chips I assume? I was able to zoom in on my original pics on my phone and spot those.

So both would need the 2.09 eagle Rom if I wanted c.f. cards or bigger hd's?

Here is the photo of my u53 chip?

What does that tell me?

That tells you that the Green board is a "Original" Big Buck Hunter

Sportsman Paradise Is listed as BBH1.5 IIRC and the Call of the Wild is BBHCOTW or COTW I can not remember right off.
There is also a Call of the wild 8 meg version that will end in -8 on the U53 this was a "upgrade" for the older green boards with 4 empty RAM spots. Like yours is.

So I guess I need to track down an Eagle 2.09 Rom and a compact flash kit for the original Buck Hunter then.

I don't want to upgrade this game if it is gonna start costing a ton. This cab is solid and has the marquee and proper CP overlay already.

Any recommendations on some KLOV'ers who might sell these kits?

I know Arcade Services sells em, but does anyone else provide this service?

I am not sure about the CF part, But I know ToplessZ would have the EEPROM and maybe the CF part also.

Although I know if I dig I have a Hard drive that is supposed to be the original BBH. I swear I remember having one in my pile o hard drives.... I could maybe make a CHD from that and just upload it someplace.

I'd still need the eprom, because finding a matching HD would prove super difficult and once again probably not worth the time for you or me if the price of the new CF and eprom package is around 40 - 50 bucks anyways.

I appreciate the offer but I wouldn't want you to go to that trouble without seeing if I could buy a package first.
