A friend of mine picked up a couple of slot machines and figured because I'm fairly mechanically inclined that I could somehow get them working for him (wishful thinking on his part I think).

I'm just dealing with the first one, it's a Bally 25 cent slot machine.
I plug it in and it turns on.
I hit the little coin censor lever to simulate a coin going in.
I hold down the "tilt reset?" button and I can pull then lever but then it gets stuck.
If I push hard on the bar that goes into that vacuum plunger thing it will trip something and the wheels will turn and "act like" a slot machine should.

I was able to remove the wheel assembly and fiddle with the little spring adjuster thinking that was what needed to be adjusted but that didn't really help.

I'm not sure if it's all works mechanically or if there are some other electronics involved in making it all work.

Any help, thoughts, advice or direction is greatly appreciated.

That plunger tube is famous for being a problem in Bally's. There's a rubber seal that turns to goo and either gums up or completely cements the plunger in the tube. Flood the tube with WD-40 and work the plunger out, then use a screwdriver and a sharp blade to remove as much of the rubber from the tube and plunger as you can.

Would you be able to post a picture of the model plate? It's located on the lower right of the machine below the handle.

I had a similar problem on a Bally EM (Model 935) which was solved by replacing the rubber seal mentioned above. I got the seal off of Ebay here. I removed that C clip that is to the right of tube and carefully removed the pin holding the J bar in place which allowed removal of the J bar. Be careful because it is under spring tension. I needed to lightly tap on the J bar with a hammer to remove it but once the seal was replaced, it slid easily in and out.
