Hey guys, I'm working on a XENON and it's having an issue. The out hole coil at the top of the play-field keeps getting stuck in the energized position. At first it only did it every now and then but eventually got worse. I replaced the coil and it worked great for a while. Now it's sticking on again.... Seems to only do it when the game is being played for a while, if it sits off for a while it goes back to normal operation. Any suggestions? Thanks...

Sounds like maybe the outhole switch is sticking. A problem with the Solenoid Driver would make it stay energized all of the time, not just once in awhile.

I would chase the switch circuit first.

OK, I'll check that switch again. I was wondering about the driver too, I kept coming up with the same conclusion, if it were the driver it would ether be energized all the time or not work at all. Just doesn't make sense that it would start sticking after it warms up... But I'll check it again just the same. thanks for the advice.

Makes perfect sense. For fun hit the associated driver transistor with freeze spray when this happens and see what happens. To fix it start testing them with a DMM out of circuit, like someone said here. Replace the bad ones, and test all associated diodes too on the solenoid and on the driver board.

If it were the switch, I'd expect it to fire over and over, and not just stick in an energized position.

Definitely check the connectors on your driver board for cold solder joints; otherwise could be that driver is flaky, and starts acting up as the game heats up.

Anyone know what the NTE part number is for the Q4 transistors on this? I'm heading back out there to work on it this weekend and I'd like to pick one up just in case thats the problem. The game is out in the sticks (about a 1.5 hr. drive one way) Thanks.

It looks like the Q4 transistor on your solenoid driver board. Stick a dmm on there to ensure it isn't fried. Good luck!

So I went back and checked this out on Saturday, played it for 2 hours straight, no problems.... I tried to make this thing fail but it didn't... I tested it in game play, at the driver board and at the solenoid, it seems bulletproof... Guess I'll count my blessings on this one. Thanks for the advice and help.

Check the ground braid just to be sure. I had one where the middle pop bumper would intermittently stick and eventually blow the playfield fuse. All the transistors were fine. I found the ground braid going from the PF to the backbox was disconnected. Once I hooked that up, it was fine.
