I've got a nice DK that I've been cleaning up and bringing back to life. Now I'm to my final step - the side art.

Currently its got the DK3 art (plus a DK3 metal plate and DK3 door panel sheet). The art is not perfect, but certainly passable (and definitely original). The cabinet has the regular nicks and scratches, but is the original laminate (or whatever material was used; its not paint)

(only picture I've got up right now)

So if anyone nearby has a decent DK cabinet - and is looking for a DK3 cabinet - maybe we could work out a swap.

Otherwise everyone's DK3 cabinets are about to get a little bit rarer...

id just leave the DK3 art on the side until one day you find the cab you want or someday you might decide you want a DK3...you never see side art anyway i say leave it

I can almost guarantee that it was originally a DK cab anyway, If not it was a Popeye.
It's blue so those are really your only two options. Like Jow said, all DK3s were kits installed into older cabs such as DK, Popeye, DKjr (orange). In short, there was never a dedicated DK3 cab. I'd leave it unless you really want the DK art on it, but if you have more than two games and this one's in the middle, you'll never know the difference anyway.

i don't think DK3 was a kit only... the kits did have a different size side art though.

The manual shows it was a kit. There are no other manuals just the kit manual. I also have NOS side art which also looks like the above posted pic and the one from this link. I've never seen another variation of it.

Was there ever a factory dedicated cabinet - I wouldn't say I'm absoultely postive but the only manual available would justify thinking no.

I agree , just leave it till someone wants to trade you a DK cab .

I think there were factory dedicated DK3 games but they were just housed in existing dk or dkjr cabs...its hard to tell since they sold the metal plates to switch out with the kits too...the only way to tell if it came that way from factory is to look for tags stapled in cabs...with Dk3 code markings...of course majority were definately kits..the sideart was same in both as far I've seen..no difference in size.

wasn't it Phet that had the smaller sized artwork?

I've put up an image of the sideart in question (plus some measurements) for posterity.

Right now, the cabinet is set so that the sides aren't shown, but it won't be always.
(and yes, this is a DK conversion - the DCK1 backdoor label is on top of a TKG2-UP label)

Speaking of side art though, anyone recomemmd the best side art to get? I'm leaning toward Mikes arcade, but who truly has the most accurate reproduction?
