Help! San Fran rush the Rock ! Linking?

I don't and haven't owned RTRs before but is there a way to run diagnostics on the hardware, specifically the main board with the network?

Failing that, maybe crack open the computer and make sure the network card is seated properly (that is if its not an on-board NIC).

That shit should be super easy but I guarantee you it's something bat shit simple bro. Don't give up yet. Well, if you do.... I'll give you $50 for each game.:D

The solution is around the corner....keep fighting

Fuck these games !!! No matter what I try I can't shit to connect. I made a brand new crossover cable and nothing.one game shows ghat the cable is ok and the other machine says ??. What the hell is going on. I'm ready to sell these things !!

Did you hook the game to a network switch/hub and see if you get a link light at least on both games?

I wonder if one has a bad NIC on it.

According to one sight I've found, it looks to be an on-board NIC.... I haven't found much on-line regarding RTR but this site might help. http://www.pinrepair.com/rush

Yeah, it's all on one board, so you can't really replace the network "card". Are you running the network test in test mode? Like Nerbflong said, I'd grab a hub or switch and plug them in with straight-thru network cables and check for the link light.

my two rushes were not linking with the cable provided either. Those cables have probably been through a lot
I got two new cat 5 cables and a router and they link perfectly now.

That board is just a special case computer system with an onboard NIC.

Best things to do:

  1. Buy brand-new CAT5 or CAT5e cables.
  2. Get a network switch that has ports that are auto-sensing (meaning you can plug in straight-through or cross-over cables and either would work). Almost any cheap and modern switch will have this capability. A network hub with auto-sensing ports would likely also work just fine.
  3. Plug everything in and run the built-in network tests on each game.

If you're going to take the cheap route, buy a brand new long CAT5 or CAT5e crossover cable and just plug each end directly into the network port on each machine. If you do this you don't need a network switch or hub.

+1 for this.

I haves switcher and now both games show cable ok but still won't link? I give the f$@* up. I'm 2 seconds of taking s f'in hammer too these things . I plug them in to the hub turn on both games , one both games show the linking lights but one machine they flash quickly and the other stas constantly on. How long in the test mode should the run to show a link. Do. Run both games in test mode the same time or what --I'm fukin lost . On the switcher it shows one cable lite on but the other nothing. When I switch the cables the same machine still shows a link and the other nothing. I saw for one second that one machine showed a link the showed a error. I'm done . I'm going to finish restoring these and I'm selling them . Not worth the frustration .'peace

OK, your one board must have a bad ethernet port. I'm not sure about replacing it; might be better off to get another working board from someone.

Just going say that, I have one board that randomly starts so I put that in and got the thong to recognize the other cabinet but now the other cab won't connect to this one? When I start a game one can flashes linking but the other doesn't . I'm tired what am I doing wrong ? Is it something stupid

I could be remembering wrong, but you may need to change the car color so they're not the same. For some reason I remember that being sort of a cab ID, and you can't run w/ two cars of the same color. Also, in test mode, run the "Network Test" on both machines at the same time.

And if you haven't already, you should give the manual a quick look: http://arcarc.xmission.com/PDF_Arca..._Alcatraz_Edition_(16-30031-101)_Oct_1997.pdf .

Yea I ran the test on both at the same time and one links and the other just searches but according to the switcher and the LEDs there both sending signal . Baby steps I guess

yea that is for sure an issue.

Yep, definitely make sure your cars are a different color on each machine. You may also want to take a closer look at the actual port that is being the problem. It's not uncommon for those pins to get bent/corroded enough so that they are not making good enough contact. You can take a small paperclip and bend a little "J" hook in the end and carefully pull the contacts out a little so that the connector can apply more pressure to your cable. Also, if it looks dirty perhaps clean the contacts the best you can with a Q-Tip and a little alcohol.
