I think it needs a crossover cable not a standard cat5. Check the manual.

I tried the crossover cables that came wih the machines and nothing. I'm at a loss . I wanted tomlink these things and put them in the house , but if I can't link them then I'm selling one of them off. Thanks for he response but keep em coming

Did you go into the test menu and see packets being sent in both directions?

One of my RUshes has a touchy network connector. Make sure the plug is in all the way.

Are you sure the coupler is good? Try a network switch between the games instead.

Also, make sure the cars are different colors!

are you sure you have a cross over cable? needs to be 568a pin out on one end of the cable and 568b pin out on the other end. If you are using a coupler make sure the coupler is straight through and only one of your two ethernet cables is a cross over and the other is straight through. Two cross over cables with a straight through coupler would end up being the same as one long ethernet cable pinned out the same on both ends.

I am using the gray cables that are in the machine

Without looking at the pins on the ice cube on the ends of the cable this really doesn't tell me much. The conductors in the clear end connector should be color coded. With the tab side down and the end of the connector facing away from you the colors for

568a should be
white green, green, white orange, blue, white blue, orange, white brown, brown

568b should be
white orange, orange, white green, blue, white blue, green, white brown, brown

On a cross over cable one end will be pinned 568a anf the other 568b. As i mentioned before if you are using a coupler do not couple two crossover cables or you will basically be making a straight through cable by doing this.

Need a cross over cable or run it throughout a switch with two cables. The other thought is check both of the software/rooms. They need to be the same. If not, check with Mick I think he may have or have access to the software.

Check software versions of all 3 and see if they are the same. I know two of those were from same op so I'm willing to bet atleast 2 of them are identical.

That would be another reason for them not to link with the exception of cable issues.

Thnks guys I'm going out on tues to get a switcher. Yea the software is the same. Hey pin I've almost have two of them completely finished! Repainted all metal, scrubbed and cleaned the plastic, new tmolding, and monitors have been adjusted. Thanks again for the sick deal, im probaly going to buy that 60-1 from you I'll let you know tues and I'll let you know about the q Bert . Would you be willing to sell the qbert cab with the bootleg board? Thanks again guys for all your input. I'll let you know.

I like the switches because you can tell if there's a link and activity. Easy trouble shooting and you dont have to typically worry about crossover cables or not. Most switches autosense and dont care if its straight or crossover.

I'd get a crossover cable and use the network test is test mode to see if they are talking. Just did this with mine and it was easy.

I agree... it's not uncommon for network cables to go bad, especially ones going between two large pieces of wood on wheels. ;)

Also, I went through some connection problems on mine when I had a pair of RtR cabs... they would drop Ethernet packets, causing games not to link properly (one would be waiting for the other, while the other started the race), or not stay linked (drop mid-race).

It would do this with a crossover cable (tried a few different ones, as well as the crossover coupler that they typically use), as well as a switch (tried many types). The solution for me ended up being using an old 10Mbps Hub... I don't know if it was this exact model, but it looked like this one - http://www.amazon.com/Allied-Telesyn-Centrecom-MR415T-External/dp/B0000512S1 . But using the network test in test mode, it's easy to check. When I had connection problems, you could see the sent and received packet counts incrementing differently... but when everything was working properly, the counts were the same.

Honestly, mine was a really weird problem, but I'd start with the simple stuff first.

Do you plug one end of the crossover cable in one pcb and the other end in the other or what? I have one machine that says cable OK and the other machine says ?? . What the he'll am I doing wrong? Help

You have a couple of options:

1. Use a crossover cable and plug it directly to each machine
2. Use straight through cables and plug them into a network switch/hub. You will need 2 cables, one for each machine with this option.

If you're using an old cable(s), I'd suggest getting new ones. Cables can corrode over time and go bad. My guess would be that 1 pair is bad on the cable you have now.

You can get cables real cheap at monoprice.com, or if you don't want to wait, go to any office supply store, best buy, etc. I haven't even bothered to look for a crossover cable in years so I don't know if they would carry those anymore.

Fuck these games !!! No matter what I try I can't shit to connect. I made a brand new crossover cable and nothing.one game shows ghat the cable is ok and the other machine says ??. What the hell is going on. I'm ready to sell these things !!
