PALs have been a real stumbling point in my board repair projects, they always seem to be missing and are game or hardware family specific. I have a GAL16v8a and I want to program it using a MAME dump. When I go into my EPROM programmer, it says the extension needs to me a .jed for JEDEC format. I renamed the extension but it did not work.

Am I missing a step? I tried a PAL to GAL conversion using a program called PALTOGAL.exe but this got me nowhere too.

Can anyone help a novice board repairer out?

Renaming file extensions won't change the data format, you need to use the app JEDUTIL that comes with MAME to convert the .bin file to the .jed fuse map.
