Help please. Williams Jive Time (Motor continually runs)

I picked up a Williams Jive Time pinball machine for free. I guess his wife wanted it out asap. It's my first.

Everything appears to be working but a motor continually runs with a whirring type sound whenever it's plugged in. I narrowed it down to the object in the attached picture. What can I do to fix it? Thanks for any help!

That's your score motor. More than likely you have a score reel not resetting to zero and that's causing it to run. Or could be the bonus stepper unit is not reseting.

Yeah, I agree with Glennon. Sounds like the score reel is not resetting. It happens on my King Kool from time to time. If one or more scoring reels are stuck and haven't reset to 0000 it's more than likely the cause.

An easy thing to check. Unplug the game and get into the backglass where the scoring reels are. Unlatch the stuck reel carefully and manually move it to 0 and put back in place. Now plug the game in and try to start a game. It should start and play a game. More than likely once you finish and try to start another game, it'll get stuck all over again. The contacts will need to be cleaned and or adjusted. Best place to learn how to do this is Marvins Pinball repair guide. Good luck.

Thanks for the help. This what I have so far.

- the score resets to 00000 when i start a game
- i play a game and the score increases
- after playing the third ball the game over does not light and the score motor continues
- no more balls are given after the third
- i can repeat the process by starting a new game

Frustrating but fun lol.

There is supposed to be a spinner in the back box as well, worth a check.
Jive time is probably my favorite em, you lucked out!

Update.

- now after the third ball the game over light does come on but the score motor still continues endlessly.

Grrrrrrrr.

I'm going to give you the same advice I give to other EM pinball owners. If the machine is new to you pick a spot and start cleaning and adjusting every switch/contact, stepper unit score reels, ect. If you do this 99% chance you will eliminate any problems you are having then if any remain it should be easy to grab the schematics and trouble shoot. This way when your done the machine will be reliable. Because who wants to pop the playfield every other game because some light, switch or feature isn't working properly. See the problem is that there can be several factors involved in something not functioning properly. Now based on what you said I'd say that the problem could be in the game over relay.

I would first check the front door coin switches to make sure they are not out of adjustment, happens a lot on Home Use Williams not set to free play (people flicking on games gets them out of wack).

Jive Time: Score Motor Stuck at Game End

Did you ever get the problem fixed?

I bought a Jive Time yesterday, and it was doing the exact same thing.

There were two problems. The wiper assembly on the spinner shaft has worked it's way back 1/4-inch. Just enough so the wipers did not make proper contact with the traces on the PC board. When the ball fell into a spinner hole, the score motor ran continuously with nothing else happening. That fix got the spinner working great, and the ball kicked out of the holes like it should.

However the score motor still ran continuously after the last ball drained, and the "Game Over" light never came on. The ball count unit in the light box had some awfully nasty died up grease, which I cleaned up and applied Teflon lubricant instread. I also had to adjust the limit switch that gets pushed open when the unit decrements from ball 1 to game over.

I was fortunately in that these two minor changes pretty much fixed the entire game.
