Ok so I would like to take everything out of my asteroids arcade machine so I can start sanding, bondoing, and repainting the cabinet. I need some quick tips on gutting it, should I leave everything plugged together and just start taking everything out? Someone told me to take TONS of pictures do that I can remember where everything needs to go. Any tips for me on my first restoration?

Take pics of everything from top to bottom, inside and out. Unplug everything, and put all of your hardware in individual baggies with labels for what they go to. (coin door parts, cp parts, marquee parts, etc. Tape the baggies to the respective parts.

What he said, and make sure you get plenty of pics of how the wiring harness is routed. That can be very confusing after time has passed. Anything that you repaint - brackets, coin door, etc.. try to match the sheen best you can. The front of the coin door frame might be all cruddy and worn, yet the backside where it has been installed may still help you decide - satin, semi-gloss, etc.. Plan on rebuilding things while you have it apart, in hopes of not pulling it apart again - go ahead and recap/repair monitor, remove and clean buttons.. You can clean the entire wiring harness in the bathtub with scrubbing bubbles and a toothbrush. Rinse with hot water and hang dry. For plastic parts - marquee, bezel, etc there's a great polish - Novus 2. You can find it at Harley Davidson dealerships, among other places.
