Help on adding switching power supply to Atari Football

I have read that it is a very good idea to replace the power supply in an original Atari Football with a switching power supply. I have not been able to find any info or instructions on doing this. Any help on what to buy and what to replace, suggestions, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help,

It is not a "very good idea" to do this to any Atari/Kee B&W game. Leave it original.

I've done this to my 2 player Atari XO and recommend it. I try hard to keep all my restorations as original as possible but have found, with XO, it is not worth it. Similar situation to what many people run into with Pole Position power and reliability.

XO 2 player is a pre-AR game, so all the power management is on the main PCB. The design is poor, prone to failure (even after careful rebuilding), and simply brings way too much power to the board.

I simply installed a switching PS from Bob Roberts and ran the +5V directly to the XO PCB. The VRU and other problematic parts were removed from the PCB. The XO PCB gets a nice clean and manageable supply of power, unlike the original design. It is easy to go back to original if you want to...

If anyone is interested, PM with your e-mail and I'll send some pics - pretty easy to do. Of course, the monitor continues to run from the main power brick.
