OK folks,

Here's my issue. My Data East Karate Champ video won't adjust so that you can see the full screen. If I adjust the horizontal hold, the image comes down from the top to where it should, but if you power the game off and power it back up again, it goes right back to where the top half of the video is chopped off once more. I'm guessing that means it's the HOT on the monitor chassis (?).

Here's my problem: the monitor chassis is either the Nanao or Sanwa 20" monitor chassis (it's not the WG option that's found in the installation manual). I can't find any writing on the chassis board yet to determine which one it is. There is a picture of a 'similar' chassis on another thread here, I will add it to this post once I find it again.

My issue is I need to order a cap kit for this chassis if one exists but need to know which one to get. Can anyone help?

This image is 'close' to the one in mine, but there are some differences. It is showing that this one is the Nanao, so maybe that means mine's the Sanwa:

Specific differences: 1. mine has the horizontal position pot right below the H Size pot. Also, mine has a v lin pot at the bottom of the chassis (basically where this one has a hole reading 'video-bias' on the far right side of the photo)

I am seeing in the manual that if the game has a Nanao monitor chassis in it, the corresponding tube would be either 510UKB22 or 510NJB22. If it has the Sanwa chassis, the manual says the tube shoul be 510UEB22. I recall there being a sticker on the tube, I will check that this weekend to see if it helps me narrow this down.

about 3 or 4 years ago I had the same issue. I had to recap a karate champ with an "unidentifiable" chassis.

I went through each cap, wrote down the value of each cap and sent the list to bob roberts. He made me a cap kit for it.

Maybe if you shot him a good clean picture, he can identify it and send you parts.

edit: lol, just noticed you are referring to my old thread. Guess it was only 2-3 years ago.

Thanks TG- I was surprised how this cab is a bit of a 'loner' when it comes to getting a cap kit for it, but it's cool.

I also keep burning through the bulbs in the coin lites. I still have to figure those out too LOL

Maybe try replacing the pots as well...faulty pots seem to be a frequent fail point that is usually overlooked(at least in my experience). I'd start with your hor hold pot and go from there...

That "H-Phase" pot in the pic above looks like a good candidate for replacement as well
