I picked up an 2 slot MVS without much knowledge about the various cabs. The cabinet does not quite match what I have seen in pics. Perhaps its a hybrid? It definitely has a 2 slot box inside.

I picked it because the cab looked pretty good (I'm not much for painting) and it worked. I was hoping to clean it up and put in a multi cart.

Can anyone identify if the cab is a two slot? And do you know if the marquees are cabinet specific?

I would like to buy the following:
Marquee (generic)
CPO
Bezel (cardboard?)
Stickers for the area just below the cp

Thanks and I'll gladly take tips, hints and wisecracks ;)

Congrats on the score, a mvs was my first cab. You've got an mvs-2-25
http://hardmvs.com/xml/usa/usCabs.htm
pick up an original marquee on eBay, or a repro at arcade overlays or game on graffix. I don't know much about multi-carts, being quite the purist, but I heard only certain carts work on certain cabs? I also heard somthing along the lines of multi-carts being dangerous to the MB, because of inconsistent voltage use or somthing? Anyway, welcome to the Neo Geo Club!

Edit: maybe it's not a 2-25, I don't see the memory card area...your cab's not a cabaret is it,lol? You can get some decals for the front from eccs over at neogeo.com, I'm not sure if you can just buy the arrows, without the side art.

The bezel is just black cardboard. The monitor glass isn't original. The original glass is tinted tempered glass.

Yeah. The same you find on almost any Dynamo/generic 25 incher.

All you need that is dedicated to the machine, from what I see, is the marquee/light system (if you want to swap out that Metal Slug marquee...). Definitely a legit MVS cab.

The 2-slot PCB should have the memory/headphone jacks built into it, so that's another item you won't have to search for (only board, IIRC, that has that...all the other boards require a seperate memory slot board).

Well its a fun mystery. I went to look at it today and forgot my camera. CPO is plastic. The whole cp is stainless or aluminum and unpainted. Is the black (below the cpo) a sticker on most cabs or is it painted?

The out of place stickers are from the ARMP (army recreation ....) because it was on an army base until sold. The red cabinet id sticker on the right below the cp cays MVS 2 something. The box inside is 2 slot but there is dedfinitely no memory card slot.

Ultimately it's no big deal but kind of fun to figure out. I really appreciate all of the help etc. I'm looking forward to getting it in tip top shape. My games are Metal Slug 3 and Strikers 1945. The striker is a little glitchy, I think it needs cleaning along with the machine.

The CP is usually painted black, with the spot under the plastic CPO being bare metal (usually resulting in a lot of rust). Yours looks like it was stripped already (??) and I don't see any rust. I usually strip/sand/and repaint mine (making sure to paint over the part the manufacturer didn't to avoid rust).

I want to say it is a MVS-2 cab, but I think payment-due may be correct since I don't see a slot for the memory card/headphones in the front. Unless they swapped the CPO from a 1 onto a 2 cab (mem slot is between the big lip and the bolts on the CP).

Congrats on the great games in it, my 4-slot had Bust a move, Metal Slug X, and Strikers 1945. Not meaning to hijack the thread but...does your Strikers only give you one life? Because that's all mine gives, and I checked the dips and everything.

Here is the CP close up and the cab sticker.
Time to order some parts!

Thats the strange thing. The board has what looks like two jacks on either side of a slot in the front. But its not on the cabinet like those pictured in the link to hard mvs.

You have a dedicated "1 slot" that was upgraded to a 2 slot later on. The 2 slot board has the headphone jacks and memory card slot on the board. Since you don't have a 2 slot cab, you don't have the front section for the reader and jacks.

cool enough. The cab is identical to the 1-25 but the sticker says MVS-2. Good enough for me.

I'm going to get it nice looking and post the pics when done.

I think the 2 slot board, probably came with a new sticker and they applied over top of the original. Kinda like with nintendo kits, you could change the back plate. Not sure, just a guess.

Another clue to work with here is the control panel. Dedicated MVS-1's don't have a "switch game" button (obviously probably drilled and replaced during conversion). On the other hand, looking at more pictures, it looks like some MVS-2's had the memory card/headphones hole where the "player 1/player 2" white arrows are (above coin door) and NOT on the CPO.

I'm leaning towards MVS-1 as well...just the plate is kinda throwing everything off. :p In the end, if done right, it could probably wind up being whatever you want it to be and no one will be the wiser. ;)
