I'm throwing an arcade party in late July, but I'm already thinking about having the ultimate arcade mix playing in the background. I already have some songs in mind, but basically, I want you guys to help me think of some awesome tunes that you distinctly remember hearing blaring in the arcade/skate rinks/etc back in the day.

If you could choose ONE ultimate song, what would it be? I will make a mix using all of your suggestions. I have already earmarked some Journey, but that, of course, should be understood :)

What would you add to the mix CD?

Pat Benetar..... Hit me with your best shot...... think of this song playing galaxian and similar shooting games.

another must have to me would be Joan Jett's I Love rock and roll.

I have been working on the same thing.
I like the Ramones , i wanna be sedated
Men without hats, safety dance
The Cars, lots of good songs by them but i like "Lets Go"
Billy Idol, Dancing with myself
to name a few

The Ghostbusters theme, I used to hear that all the time at the skating rink. Maybe a few years after the Golden Era, but it's something I associate with playing games.

I've actually been doing this as well, but building a station on Pandora. My one I remember the most from arcades and skating rink would be

Eye of the Tiger - Survivor.

Here's a few ideas:

The Little River Band - Man on your Mind

While I consider them more of the 70s (or very early 80s before arcades really started surfacing everywhere), I'd sprinkle in some of the following for good measure:

Bad company - anything on the greatest hits
Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear the REaper, Godzilla, I'm Burning for You
Fleetwood Mac - Tusk
Cheap Trick - I Want You To Want Me
David Bowie - Suffragette City
Foreigner - Anything
Heart - Magic Man, Straight On, Crazy On You
Rick Derringer - Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo
Ted Nugent - STrangehold

I revisit the original post after creating this list and realize you want 1 ultimate song. These are all "ultimate" songs. Taken out of typical 80s playlists is all the obvious shit that those of us who lived '80s are probably sick of, and the stuff that stands the test of time and never gets old is in my list. At least, according to me.
