help me figure out how to convince my wife to let me keep a game

so, i got a minty playing blind space invaders the other day. a small spot of flaking on the bezel, but rebuilt boardset and power supply, new cpo, and a solid very clean cab. bought it for $100 (got it down from $150). sold it to the wife on the fix it and resell it plan but honestly i'm kinda enjoying it and would like to keep it.

she's stuck on the whole no space thing however i just cleaned the garage and got rid of a bunch of stuff making plenty of room. i think her main thing is now that she feels i'm trying to guilt trip her etc to get her to let me keep it. i've gone silent on the whole thing cause i don't want to do that, but, does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? she told me i could get rid of another game to make room but realistically, i don't have anything i'm willing to part with...

Fix it up, slide it into space you make in the garage and say nothing. If she ever asks if you've sold that game yet, give her a simple and concise 1 word answer: "No."

Just say your gonna sell it , but never do it . Drop the line after a couple weeks , "With the Economy like it is , selling games has gotten more difficult , there hasn't been much interest . "

Tell her you need to keep it to stay fresh on proper anti-alien invasion tactics. She doesn't want you to stand back as the earth is attached does she?!?

Seriously though, is she more concerned with the space or the money she thought would come back after the sale? If it's the money is there something else, non-arcade, you could sell?

one thing i'm thinking of doing is this.

so, we got a new grill yesterday, i was kind of leaning towards the no side, our grill works fine, trying to work it on the space invaders. chrissy feels we need one (and realistically we do) so we got it. while at sears they had a real clean clearanced complete tool box that was normally $549 marked down to $214.99. kind of think this was a pricing error as that's over $300 off. anyways, she says, your tool box is kind of beat up (which it is...) if you can put up with all my crazy hormonal shit for the next week you can get it if it's there.

so i'm thinking, sure, although instead, we can not spend and save the $200 and keep the damn SI. takes up the same space either way. saves money. i dunno. we shall see...

she's not concerned about the money, and space really isn't the issue. she's mad cause i told her i bought it with the intention to flip but really i want to keep it.

If she is like my wife, download a similar game on her cellphone. Get her addicted to playing it, then she won't want it gone.

yeah, i've been kind of thinking of pricing it insanely high (like $1000 or something) and just letting it not sell at all.

Tell her you're such a girl for changing your mind. :D

Flowers and footrubs my friend. ... For her, I mean. :p

Tell her to get over it, my wife is always bitching for me not to bring more games home, but 1 out of my 6 games work now so that might be the reason, she's always bitching about buying broke ones but when they are fixed she will knock your ass out to play

Wow seriously?

Time to get a new wife. Mine tried to tell me that my DK machine should be put in the garage when we bought our house, I told her "you'll be sleeping in the garage before my DK will". ;)

"Listen Bish... I'm keepin' the friggin' Space Invaders... like it or not. Live with it" won't work?

:)

Do what I did... "Honey, I have no games in the house... they are all in the garage. The garage is "my" area, the house is "your" area... if I can cram a hundred games in "my" area... why would you care?

not really. i already have a full game room and a pinball machine in the garage. so garage storage isn't a problem.

I am at the point of running out of room where I have them in my house so any discussion of getting another she brings up the space issue, it almost makes me want to go overboard and have them everywhere, next one is going right next to her nightstand in the bedroom...lol.:)

For me this comes down to how much of an issue this really is for her. If she really feels strongly about it then consider selling it. Marriage sometimes requires making sacrifices. She may even change her mind about it once she sees you working on selling it.

Tell your Mom, sorry i mean Wife that your keeping it, it's your hobby and you could be doing worse things with your money & time. My wife shakes her head at me because she doesn't understand but always says "well he could be at the bar or worse" It's a clean fun hobby that for the most part keeps you at home working in your game room or garage. I am always home working away at something in there. I have taught my kids all kinds of thing working on old PCB's etc... I have one room and as long as i keep to that room everyone is happy, wife included. If my hobby took over the entire house that would be a problem, keep the SI i can tell you really like it and it's a killer classic. Every home arcade needs a Space Invaders, Pac, & Galaga.

I am sure your wife will understand, just tell her at the end of the conversation that she is still the boss ;) I'm sure she wants you to be happy, heck the thing was $100!

my 2 cents,

Braido...

Be completely honest. You'll feel better in the end. Tell her you seriously bought it planning to make the sale, but after working on it and having it around for a time, you've grown to like it and would now like to keep it. Mention that its not causing a financial strain, you're committed to ensuring you still have plenty of space in the garage, and that you'll work to be more realistic when these situation arise in the future. And of course mention that you're explaining this because you always want to be 100% honest with her. GG.
