help ID'ing wires on an encoder board for MAME mouse hack pls.

Please see the 2 attached pic of the existing encoder PCB from my Sega Monaco GP cockpit.

On the pic showing the back, the order of the wires goes: 1. white (far left), orange (2nd wire), blue (3rd wire), and yellow/red (4th wire).

After reviewing the board, I believe that wire 1 (white) is common/ground, wire 2 (orange) is one of the sensor wires (goes to IC1 on the front of the board), wire 3 is the other sensor wire (goes to IC1 on the front of the board also), and wire 4 is the +5.

My questions are as follows:

1. Can anyone confirm or deny my current thoughts on the 4 wires?
2. if my guesses are correct, where on the mouse PCB do I wire the +5 and the ground/common wires to?

I checked the original manual for this game but the schematics are crap unless you have your PHD in Electrical Engineering and Metaphysics.

Thanks for any help!

VG

Other than your numbering being opposite of the pre-existing numbering of the PCB's wires (there's a "4" near the left wire in your photo), your interpretation of function is correct.

The schematic I found (here: http://arcarc.xmission.com/PDF_Arcade_Manuals_and_Schematics/Monaco_GP_(420-0358).pdf) isn't very difficult to follow at all; and I'm still 8 credit-hours short of my Master's in Metaphysics...

Thanks Darren, I have the schematic which is shown at that link on pg 14- but I have no background in reading these schematics, so that page may as well be telling me how to hook up my own flux capacitor :(

And I totally missed the '4' on the PCB!

OK and now I see the attached info in the upper right corner of the schematic on pg 14 (thanks to Darren's help) which represents the 4 wires. Off to the next step..

Thanks!
