Hey guys, i just got this monitor, i haven't tested it yet but i know its not working. id like to identify it so i know what cap kit i need to buy. (i suspect its a D9202 but i cant find a cap kit for that on Bob Roberts' website)

Thanks in advance.

Wells D9200 series.

Zanen Electronics has the kit. it is their kit # 260 which contains a whopping 64 capacitors for just $9.95

Catalog with ordering info is here:

BTW - their kit - while having 64 caps - isn't complete. There are actually 75 caps (78 if you count the BP and filter caps). Here's the complete list:

Took off the neck board to inspect it, saw something that kind of made me raise an eyebrow... i know sometimes they use a paste or adhesive but it looks like a cap burst or something... i have attached some pictures... what do you guys think? the caps dont look swolen or burst but they could have opened from the bottom...

What are those big ceramic blocks? are they resistors?

Thanks again.

The blocks are resistors and the yellow-brownish paste is just glue. It is used sometimes to hold caps in place. I never reapply it when I replace those caps; I don't think it is necessary.

I touched up a couple of cold solder joints that i found on the neck board and on the little board that has the inputs (vga cga ect) and plugged it back in. I got the monitor working again without green. I decided to play gauntlet out of boredom and about an hour into game play i got green and played the game another two hours or so, with green working the whole time!

Shortly after i stopped playing green went away again. its now just displaying blue and red! : ( what could be the issue here?

on the one i had it was the video card was not seated and the red would flake in and out.
pull it out and see if it needs cleaned.

also turn up the Gaines on the neck board and see if the colors are present. they should give off a hue over the whole screen of the color you turn up.

Peace

That sounds like the same problem on mine, the red goes in and out. Which one is the video card?

its the card on the end of the 3 board setup in the cab not on the monitor chassis. it is a video card like in a computer it even looks the same.

I dont think its the video card because before this monitor was in this cabinet it was doing the same thing, green was going in and out.

cold solder joint at the video input pins on the main chassis mabye?( if so wiggling the video input wires will make the color come and go)

recheck the neckboard especially the color drive transistors for burnt solder or traces.

well it could not hurt to check.

mine did the same thing before and after the cap kit and it was the video card.

I'll try that next I still haven't taken the main chassis out to check for cold solder joints so I'll try that next.

If the video card is good try some more things.
If you remove the input signal cable to the monitor.
Monitor should display the NO SIGNAL message on the screen
and it will show the 3 primary colors on the screen if good
then it may not be the neck board..

If still missing green then like the other said solder the large white resistors
and the Video Transistor, like R234 and Q206 anytime it test bad i replace q208 also.
Check the pins and traces around Q206.. try solder on the resistor and transistor first.
Make sure the input board is solder good. Its not a cap.
But it looks like the caps are orginal and should be replace just because.
Or wait till it fails with other problems, never had a tube issue.
