I have several non-working Arkanoid PCBs.

I've just spent several hours swapping chips and now which ones are good and which ones are bad.

But now I need to figure out what is wrong with the boards themselves, and would appreciated any idea one how to go about this.

Are there common component failures that I should be looking for? Or should I get my soldering iron out and shotgun possible cold solder joints?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Darren

Do you have the green pirated boards or the white square Taito boards? I believe they run on different voltages, because I did a chip swap from white into green and got the game to come up, but with a ton of "snow" on the screen.

I believe any basic troubleshooting for PCB boards would help you with your Arkanoid boards. I only know of the different types of boards. Arkanoid & Tournament Arkanoid are Taito boards or pirated green boards. Arkanoid: Revenge of DoH! is a JAMMA board. Arkanoid Returns is a Taito F-3 cartridge for the F-3 Motherboard (like a CPS2 A+B Boards). As far as repair, they certainly would be a good one to learn on, since they're one of the cheapest on ebay for a replacement - between 15 and 40 bucks.

Good luck. You might try to hunt down a schematic, too.

The boards are all very light green, and have Taito imprinted on the PCB, along with a Romstar sticker.

And I haven't been able to find Arkanoid schematics.

Thanks.

The pirate boards are dark green like any other PCB, without the taito logo. The schematic might be in the manual - hunt down the PDF online. I can't remember where they're located, but hey are online...
