I have been working on my paperboy restoration, the big snag being the red gun is totally dead in the medium res monitor. I ordered a cga, ega to Vga converter board, and now i'm hunting a monitor. Looking for a 23 - 24 NON widescreen lcd and not having much luck! anyone know of one??

The largest non-widescreen LCD I've ever seen is 22":

I just need a PC LCD monitor. I've found a 23" non wide but its not made anymore.

Skip LCD and look for a 21" CRT PC monitor.

I am in the process or replacing my 19" med res monitors in my Championship Sprint and APB. There is one seller on ebay who will sell a Nokia 21" for $89 shipped. Since med res -> VGA isn't that great of leap (compared to CGA->VGA) it looks fine.
I also acquired a Sony 21" VGA CRT monitor for $40 by putting a nice little want ad on Craigslist.

Have you tried using a rejuvenator on that tube? My paperboy had weak red too, and rejuvenating it cured the problem. Hate to see people think these hard to find med res monitors are garbage when in reality they probably aren't. If you're not going to try rejuvenating, at least sell it to someone who wants the real thing. Don't throw it away!

Damnit, I read the post wrong, nevermind.

Unless you use an actual arcade part with a native res that exactly matches the game, a CRT will *always* look better. Even if it's a computer CRT.

The tube has been on a rejuvinator, no red at all. Two chassis were also tried, positive the tube is no good.

Sure is... I just hit the goodwill store to look for monitors, they had 2 TV sets and nothing else!

Is paperboy a 19" medium res?

Yes it is. The Atari System II cabinet is the same for Paperboy and Championship Spint. They are just kits that you can swap out.

OK, couldn't remember and haven't owned one - I have a 25" med res sitting in the shop, just rebuilt but that isn't going to help.
