Help! Eprom Programmer!

I can't use the update, It needs new eproms burned to use it(you update the eproms in the programmer)

Sounds like the cable is fine, it's just something to do with the software. Have you tried running the software from just DOS, without messing with Windows? Honestly, Windows does some annoying stuff to direct device access. Just run the software straight from DOS, and try that.

You don't need to find a computer with a 25 pin serial port. The number of pins in the port makes NO difference - both connectors contain the same signals in most machines anyway.

Well that sucks... Sort of the chicken and the egg problem. The software is paired with the firmware update, but do you know if it requires a mated set or is the newer software backwards compatible? You should be able to check the firmware version of your programmer. I would do that to see what you have vs. what that update offers. We might need to get you the updated firmware burned and shipped to you. Steven at hobbyroms.com can hook you up for sure. Plus he is in Canada, so should be easier for him to send it to you.

Anytime something gave me crap like this I would update everything I could since they usually workout incompatibilities and issues over time. Plus you probably get expanded device support with the update too.

He said he tried straight DOS after I suggested it. Seems like a problem with the software he has. I bet the "application" is just controlling the device through the serial port like he is, and it is just dying trying to use XModem to download and save the file. Since it opens the file and fails, it seems like it might even be a version mismatch or other protocol glitch during that transfer.

Ah, OK. That makes sense - yeah, didn't see that.

Yeah, I'd go for trying to update the software in the programmer. Sounds like he's real close. It could also be that the programmer was already updated... Do you try the new software, or did you just read that it needed updated ROMs?

After so much trouble, it finally works and the file saved verified correctly.
My Eprom programmers version is 2.05 I had to use EP119 to get the programmer to work.

Was that 119 version in that archived EXE that I linked to on archive.org? Just curious in case someone else needs a better version of the software. Glad you got your programmer working.

Yes, It's quite funny as I've had that 119 file/the update files for ages but didn't think they were actual software so never tried to use them.
