Hey, I have a few questions about joysticks, so please bear with me.

Currently, I have a Elevator Action that is in dire need of a new joystick. Are the hole placements universal for different joysticks? Are there different "standards"? What's the easiest way to tell if I have the right replacement part?

Basically, I have the same questions with wanting to "rebuild" my 3" trackballs on my Millipede cocktail. I see 3 different rebuild kits out there, how do I know which ones to get? (I believe mine are the originals)

Typically the joystick bolt pattern is the same for US cabs. That doesn't apply to imports like Universal games which used a proprietary joystick. Wicos', Happ, and Wico knockoffs will interchange. A Sanwa will replace a Universal (I believe) but will be a micro switch style opposed to leaf switch.
The trackball rebuilds differ by size of the trackball. An upright Millipede should have a 3" trackball therefore a 3" rebuild kit should work. A cocktail probably has 2 1/4" trackballs, you'll need the 2 1/4" kit for cocktails.

If your Elevator Action stick is original......most times a new grommet is all that's needed.

Atari didn't label their trackballs by size, instead they used a different name for each size. Here is a breakdown:

Mini - 2.25" balls
Midi - 3" balls
Maxi - 4" balls

Bob Roberts calls them by the Atari name but most other people refer to them by their size.
