Hey All,
I have a spare Donkey Kong board that I am trying to repair so I can turn it into a D2K (or Double DK/D2K). Anyways, according to this page:
http://www.brasington.org/arcade/tech/dk/

, I have a bad 5A chip (see attached photo). So initially, I swapped out the chip from a spare board. No change. So I finally work up the courage to replace the socket. And I believe I done a pretty fair job at it. I'm sure a professional tech would have done better, but it looks adequate with no raised pads or broken traces and nothing shorted either. So I replace the chip....and I still have the same blasted screen. The game will go through the "garbage screen" at boot up as well as a few game noises. But it always locks up on this screen next. So my question is, does anyone have any other suggestions that might cause this screen shot or lock up. Any help would be appreciated.

dk boards can not play both donkey and donkey jr.. donkey kong jr must be used to make a double donkey kong.

Yes so it would have to go D2K which is in my opinion a better way to go.

That screen can be seen when it hangs up on boot, could be many problems causing it. If you had the D2K kit already you could install it to eliminate program rom issues. You should try swapping in a known good z80 first.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to find a good Z80 or order one. Don't have the D2K yet, but I might have to pick it up a bit later if the Z80 doesn't work. This was a working board not too long ago. It just locked up and died on me during a game day.
