Hey guys,

I have a dynamo cab that I want to get into to do some rewiring, but it doesn't seem to have a removable back. I can get the console board out ok, but there's so much empty space at the bottom, it would be perfect for a multi jamma setup, theres just no room for all the boards on the pull out drawer.

I suspect the back is pegged into place like ikea furnature. Looks to be sandwiched between the sides. Inside the cabinet, the tops of the sides are bolted into place and act as a load bearer for the monitor, so I'd rather not remove those if possible. Is there any easier way to remove or make a door on the back of this thing? What have you guys done on machines with no removable back?

you've already got the CP out. Unhooke everything to the monitor and pull it from the front. From there you can basically lean in and reach the bottom.

I've had more than a couple of these and I've never taken off the back. They don't have full height access panels. I think that because they are so big and heavy that they're more structurally sound with a small monitor access vs the full back ones. I have an earlier HS5 with a full height back and these small back door later ones are way more sound in construction.

Alrighty, glad I didn't do anything to mess up the cabinet. I'll get my wiring all out of the way and then pull the monitor as you suggest to get in there and screw everything down.

Thanks!

Some hs-5's I have have a large wood support/divider below the monitor and above the front slide out wood. I think its both structural and to keep people from opening the back and gaining access to the board.. SO with the monitor out, you can't get to the bottom of the cab. Your cab looks like it has that support with the isolation transformer mounted to it.

I have not pulled a hs5 apart, but I think its connected with wood dowels. I have seen hs9's wanting to come apart so I would think the hs5 are made the same. Since your cab has the added wood, I would think it would be ok to open the back. But if its a keeper for you, I would put in L iron to support/better connect the sides, the middle support, and in the speaker area. These dynamo cabs do not have the strength to hold together like a 3koam cab.

you do know you can remove the coin door and access it from the front. It might be easier to organize the boards to NOT mount of the slide out shelf and mount them to the inner walls/base of the cab.

Hmm, if I can squeeze through the coin housing w door removed, that would probably be a better plan of attack. I can already barely do it through the cp opening - the weird angle is a killer, though.

You're right, there is a plank underneath the monitor which is likely held in place by those wooden pegs, removing the monitor wouldn't give me any more access to the insides. Not sure if removing the cp plank is an option without changing how the cp mounts to the bottom of the opening. Will play around with it a bit tomorrow.

Thanks for the tips!

Take the monitor out then slide the control panel drawer all the way out. That is if the cabinet is a hs-5

As I said above, his is like one of mine. Probably a late run hs-5 to fix cabs structure and protect the pcb. That wood is fixed into place and has the iso transformer screwed into it. Many hs-5 have the iso mounted on the back wall next to the PS. These ones are different. Although, he could toss the iso as his monitor is u2000 or u5000, I would leave it.

Thats also a weird power cord hole. It looks like it does not use the normal hs-5 PS. The hole looks too small and too far to the middle with no holes for the mounting screws. It also has a remote power switch rather than the normal push button on the side.

It will be a pain to put boards and wiring in through the coin door. But if its going to be a 1 time deal to set it up, its doable. You Don't have to put all the screws back to secure the coin door. Maybe just 2 or 3 to keep ez access.
