Help Clean up the KLOV / IAM database - Pending Submissions

Please feel free to log onto the web site www.arcade-museum.com,

Then go to any of the VAPS stats pages:
http://www.arcade-museum.com/members/statistics/top-voters.php
(um...it might not work for non-VAPS members)

If logged in you will see two extra choices:
1) Vote on Database Submissions
2) See report on Voters.

Please take a look at both and let me know what you think... There are a lot of pending submissions. Right now there are a bunch of spam entries in there too.. about 1800 of them I would guess out of 2600 pending new records submissions. Please help identify and vote them as 'spam' if they are. 4 votes and the submission is automatically gone.

The spam is pretty easy to spot so its a quick and easy way to get up on the Top Voters list.

It's just another step closer to getting the site fully in shape...

Cool! I just tried to vote and the first one was a spam for some drug company, I voted Spam/Delete and I get the same error as above...

" TIME TO SHOOT A RECORD!DELETE sql failed

I just figured it out... you have to hit back and then refresh the vote screen. Damn, lots of crap being submitted, I can see why its such a bitch Greg!

I got the same error. Is there a place where it will preview images that were submitted along with a game as well?

Instead of voting one at a time, it would be better if you could update the "Help Us Process This Record:" dropdown on all the items on the page and then click Vote and have it process all entries you'd updated. Right now it only updates the one you hit vote on (at least it's the only one missing when I go back after the error and refresh).

You can vote for all 5 entries on the screen at a time, but it is an exercise in futility that when you vote you go back to page 1 -- then have to click next, next, next, next.... to get where you left off.

Would be helpful to just move to next page when you vote.

Damn, 264 votes before I came to a somewhat legit one, which was an ebay link and the guy didn't really know what the board was but it had a bunch of Atari games on a multi... LOL, so many spam sex submissions that I NEARLY hit the SPAM before I took a second look at it.

Greg, is there a way to make the submissions in the future where there is a dropdown box or selection you much choose, like the "Atari B&W" but make it something like "SELECTION REQUIRED" like on a company or something? Then if the spam crap idiots leave it on select it automatically goes to a garbage junk folder for deleting.

I notice every submission I did 200+ of spam votes they all said Atari B&W, all said Adventure, so they basically were leaving it on the default selection on a submission and rolling with it.

I'm back from dinner. It looks like I submitted an error to the program right as I walked out the door. It is recording votes but isn't deleting the spam properly. I'll look at it now.

As far as the future. I think a little CAPTCHA will help. I bet some of these submissions are coming from some sort of script/program that people buy that submits their URL to 100,000 site or something. Too much of it is too similar, but typically days apart.

It seems to only be accepting one record at a time. It displays 5 per screen but the vote only is recorded for the one you click vote. Would be eaiser to submit in bulk (ie. more than 5)

Yes it displays 5 at a time in case you want to skip one, which doesn't matter for spam, but gets really useful when you have real submissions.

Tomorrow if all the spam isn't gone I may try and find a "one-click" solution for the spam entries...

I reduced the # of entries you see at one time to one.

I've been knocked down from 3rd to 4th place on the high voter list...

And I'm thinking I'm going to add CAPTCHA to all submissions for non-logged in users to prevent this spam problem in the future... Fortunately the spam is only one a day +/-

Most of the SPAM entries have the same default fields, though one of them (manufacturer) isn't the default but some odd thing. I wouldn't be surprised if the site is a target of some kind of 'Submit Your Site to 100,000 web directories' script, where some creep wrote a thing to post to that page...

I wrote a small script that you can set as a bookmark on your browser. It will set the top entry to spam and then vote. Even though you only do one at a time, it is still way better. You can see the top entry with no scrolling, click your bookmark, it's gone. :) Without moving your mouse, you can repeat with another click, etc. Then you only have to do anything else if it is not spam. :)

Here is the Javascript to use on your bookmark.

Code:
javascript:window.document.forms[0].elements[13].value = 2;window.document.forms[0].elements[15].click();

Enjoy!

Since the spam is so obvious right now, I reduced the amount of votes needed to nuke a spam submission from 4 to 3.

Submissions with 3 votes already still need a 4 vote, but all new elections with 0-2 votes already will now only need 3.

I used the bookmark. Unfortunately it made it so quick and easy that I accidentally marked a couple legit ones as spam. I wouldn't reduce the # needed to nuke any more than that for that very reason. And it would be nice if there was a way to bring up a submission ID and revise your vote. I could have corrected them if I had an easy way to get it back.

I don't think it is working right.

The was my first fix this morning about an hour ago. The system was correctly not having you vote on things you already voted on, but didn't prevent you from seeing and voting on an election that had already closed. Now it skips any record not in a new unknown status (ie: election closed spam, admin marked pending, etc.).

A number of questionable but possibly legit entries came to the surface as submissions were marked spam and these questionable ones were marked 'pass'. I moved three of them temp offline until we get through more of the spam stuff.

If you knew the game title or anything I could look it up manually.

For a variety of reasons, there isn't an easy way to go back and change an entry.

Right now a piece of spam is auto deleted if 3 people mark it as spam and no more than 1 person previously marked it as anything else.

It seems there are blatant keywords (viagra, Cialis, Zithromax) that couldn't possibly be in a legitimate submission. Can you filter those out and automatically delete them?
