so i got a 60-1 pcb with trackball support.. ordered an atari trackball from bob with the red boards. also ordered the harness.. i can only get some of the directions, not all 4..

how the EFF do i set up this piece of shit..i must have tried a hundred configurations and now recently cut the harness to wire in to player two connections and I still cannot get it working right.

I am supposed to be wrapping it up and putting iit on the trailer like now. I have spent the last 4 hours trying to figure it out by running in and out on the pc.

this really sucks. i am gonna have to deliver it partially working.

shit!

trac

pretty sure only new happ trac balls work right with 60-1

i was assured by bob that the atari one works.. hell, it could be happ but there is no branding on it. it has the red boards and bob sells it to a few guys who do a lot of multicades.

Mine is Happ, but it looks the same as the Atari one on Bob's site. Not sure what the difference is other than looks.

Stupid question -- did you change the controller settings in the menu to be 1P with a trackball?

trac

also in menu is trac ball config swap polarity for x, and y

in the menu i turned on both the track ball settings.. when i do just the first one, i get up/down in the correct orientation. when i do both, i get up/down in opposite polarit..

when i do just the second one, i get left/right. i cant figure out how to get both to work at the same time.

xy

each x and y setting can be pos or neg independent of ea other they both dont need to be the same way and both can be changed and set separate so just change the 2nd one the same way that the first one is working, or experiment till you find right setting that works for the 4 direction, make sure to push the 1 player start after configuring them correct that burns it into computer memory if you dont it reverts to factory and may expain why its not working

with the 2 direction, x and y, and 2 option ea +, - polarity, there is 4 ways it can be set, try all 4 or till you find the right one
ADDED you may need to push the 1 plyr start every time you change setting so the new setting will get into the comp and then see if its right

Somewhere around here I have it detailed which color wires from the trackball go to which pins on the board or which wires from the harness for it to work properly.

the default settings for the trackball should work....

JAMMA Harness -

Black to Ground
Red to +5V
Yellow to 2nd player UP
Green to 2nd player DOWN
Brown to 2nd player LEFT
Blue to 2nd player RIGHT

On the HAPP TB -

Left/Right
1) Output - A (Blue Wire)
2) +5V (Red Wire)
3) GND (Black Wire)
4) Output - B (Yellow Wire)

Up/Down
1) Output - A (Green Wire)
2) +5V (Red Wire)
3) GND (Black Wire)
4) Output - B (Orange Wire)

well, i emailed bob and although he doesnt have any experience with these boards, he sent my issue to a regular customer of his who buys a lot of trackballs for the 60-1's.

so the guy calls me and tells me that it sounds like one of the optic boards has gone bad. so i am going to order a replacement plus a new trackball to have as a spare. i am going to place an order with bob and cross my fingers.

thanks

I had the same issues at one point. Go into the menu and change your trackball orientations and directions accordingly. BUT, after you change them make sure you hit the 1P start button and see the "Setup OK" message. When you change the trackball and other settings they don't take place unless you hit the 1P start. Hope this helps

trac

all this is why i think only the happ trac balls work for these

i will post back, but i have a lot of confidence that the guy i spoke to knew what he was talking about. he buys boards from Nick and trackballs from bob and has installed a LOT of trackballs (per bob).

edit: looking at bob's site, he has a couple of pictures of the red boards and references the differences in the wiring connections on old harnesses versus the new. I looked at Happ's site and then back to Bob's site - Bob is showing pictures of the red boards which are stamped "Happ Controls"..

so we are probably talking apples and apples.. and that further leads me to believe that i may have screwed up an optic board.

Assuming that were true, your "experienced" trackball guy should have told you to swap the connectors to the red boards, then see if your problem changes to the opposite axis. If it does, then you know it's an optic board issue. If it doesn't then it's something else...

Update!!

got new parts in from Bob.. carefully connected everything to the com3 and adjusted the menu setting for x y dir and dammit, i have a fully functioning trackball.

i must have screwed up the other one. so i did buy a $20 board, I called the lady to schedule the follow up to complete her game and install the functioning trackball.

so, if you buy a 60-1 from nixs, just buy the trackball and harness (they are happ, but Bob calls them atari b/c they are replacements for the atari trackballs). plug the thing into COM3 and adjust via the on screen menu as necessary.
