Hello all, first time on pinball forum but have been on the vid forums for many years. I have 3 pins along with my vids and I'm having sound issues on my Embryon. I thought I'd check in here to seek advice from the experts. When I got the game there wasn't any sound, I recently got S&T board working (bad LM3900) but I only hear sounds when ball hits targets otherwise game is silent (aside from speech). I read the checksums on the two game ROMS and they are correct according to what I found on line, recapped all the electrolytics, voltages are all correct. Not sure where to check next, could use some suggestions.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Your game is at the age where it likely wants new connectors.

With the basics covered (caps, especially), check:

1) The resistance on the speech and sound volume pots. The pots DO go bad.
2) In your game self test mode, make sure that setting #16 is set to "03" - which is full sound option (voice with background).

Connector problems rarely if ever at all affect S&T performance.

Good luck!

This Bally board rev was especially bad about logic board connector pins going cold. It's has had 32 years of that silver ball bouncing around in there making making vibrations in those connector pins; not to mention the same time of wire hanging from them.

Make sure you re-flow the solder on the MPU and sound board connector pins to overcome this problem. The best way for this not to happen again is to make sure that your wiring harness to all of the boards are tied up to remove the weight from the pins. It has been my experience that the MPU it the worst offender with cold solder.

While you have the iron out and hot I would suggest that you re-flow the solder on every board back there. A little preventive maintenance goes a long way.

Previous owner re-flowed all pins on the MPU, I checked them with my magnifier and they all look good. Thanks for the heads up on the harness, none of breakouts had the strain reliefs attached and they were indeed hanging by the connectors, a few strain reliefs later and all is well. Found the problem, sometimes the obvious gets overlooked, BATTERY DEAD, wasn't keeping settings. Replaced battery, changed sound settings on #18 back to 3 and viola, I have full sound. Thanks for the advice guys, appreciate it.
