hello to all !! space invaders price check

was browsing the internet and came upon your forum, very informative . i know that you all say price is subjective when it comes to video games, but i have an midway space invaders that has been taking up space for 10 years now and am going to sell it , i dont want to get ripped off and i dont want to rip anyone off so i am wondering what you guys think it is worth. it has some issues but in overall good shape, when it is playing there is some monitor flicker and some of the controls are quirkey at times. the off on button has to be taped down as it will not stay on . so just give me an idea what it is worth and ifanyone is interested i am just west of cleveland, ohio.

thanks so much!!

that things pretty beat man.. wicked screen burn, peeling underglass underlay, issues you described..

Id classifyt that as a project in the $75-125 range...

You shoud just keep it and restore it!!!

Without trying to sound rude - I'm afraid that thing is pretty rough shape :(
Clearly you don't want to keep it so at this point all I can tell you is be happy with what ever you get out of it if you just want it gone. Good luck.

Those guys are crazy. The game works. List it on Craigslist for $200 and it'll probably sell between now and Christmas. Sure, it could look better, but any of these guys would give ya $50 for it then ebay the boards and monitor for more than the $200.

The cab can be cleaned up a bit, and a dedicated restorer could take it all the way back, but I'd consider any working classic like that to be worth $200 with no argument from me...

I agree.. It works, that's a huge bonus right there.. $200.00 is fair.

$50 is too low. $200 is probably too high, but is a fair price to list it at on CL. Either someone will give you the $200, or you can "come down" to $150, which is probably fair to both parties for the condition it's in.

+1. Please see the following thread: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=109959 ;)

That is pretty rough. I would list for $200, expecting to get around $100 - $150. It needs basically everything except the circuit board\power\wiring to bring it back, and that stuff adds up quick.

If the monitor didn't have such bad burn in I would say stick to $200, but that drops things down a bit. I think with the condition it's in, you won't attract the casual buyer that doesn't know anything about these, since it's been rode hard and put away wet.

In any case, good luck with the sale!

I'd list it at the highest price advised from this forum ($200 by one member) that you are comfortable with and see if anyone wants it. There's no sin in doing this, honestly representing the condition and any warts in your listing, and negotiating downward. Your selling price then gets adjusted by your desire to see it gone and how soon. It's a huge plus that it's working somewhat. Selling it for parts is another option, but more hassle (a lot more interactions) and it will take longer. Many times the sum of the parts is greater than the whole.

That's the great thing about Craigs List. A timed listing (7 days) and you get a very good idea of what the public thinks your "treasure" is worth. For every seller there is a buyer, but it may take a while to find the right buyer depending upon your asking price. We've seen some outrageous asking prices on games that have been repeatedly re-listed for as long as a year or more. On the other side of the spectrum, the dream of most members here is to find that lister who wants a great game gone and offers it at a very low price or the ultimate - free - "I want it out of here".

Good Luck and have fun

Bill

Are all the sounds working? Thats a very common issue with these. Sometimes certain sounds are gone. If its fully working I'd say $200 is fair, after you clean up the controls and make them work like new that is. The main killer to me isnt the monitor as much as it is the flaking artwork. Repro is not too expensive and would increase the value IMO.

Have to disagree with some

I would have to disagree with some people here who say that "collectors" are the biggest lowballers. I have been collecting for almost 10 years and would say collectors are the most educated and know the price on things. There are a few who have given the hobby a bad name..
With that in mind...$200 is too high for this machine.

I would say $125-150 is fair.

Like others have suggested, you can post it for $200 (hell, you can post it for whatever you want), and see if someone "bites" for that price. If they do, he good for you...but you asked what a "fair" price would be..and $200 is not fair...

Good Luck!! And welcome to the forum!!

thanks to all!!

thanks for all the replys!! i kinda was figuring anywhere from 100.00-200.00 so that is good. have an offer for 100.00 from a guy now. but here is a question i would like to ask of all the cleveland, ohio area guys. i have a spacejam pinball machine that has been sitting along with this space invaders, i have a kit i bought years ago to replace bumpers and other things ( i think you guys call it shopped ) the machine is in great shape needs a cleaning and these parts installed i would be willing to trade you the space invaders for your time to come and do the work on my machine and make her pretty again! i am in vermilion, oh so if anyone might be interested let me know i am available pretty much any day at any time.

thanks again
heavy!

Hi there, I am interested in your offer, but the crux would be that i am around 1.5 hours away and would need to bring the pin back here to do the work on it.

I can clean, do the bumper replacement and part replacement, but I am not proficient in diagnosing board probs yet.

LMK what you think?

I agree with Havok on this one. You can list it for $200 (OBO) but would be lucky to get $150 just due to the condition.
